The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s most effective animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Manager, Food Service Innovation for the Farm Animal Welfare department. You will maintain and advance relationships with major food service companies that are focused on instituting plant-based policies and/or animal welfare reforms while managing a team of Food Service Innovation professionals.

You will be responsible for:

• Initiating engagement with the largest companies and institutions in the food industry, persuading them to set goals to align their supply chain with increased plant-based food options within a specific timeframe and holding them accountable to their commitment;

• Leading projects as they relate to food companies, including but not limited to the development of in-depth plant-based proposals, crafting animal welfare policies, tracking plant-based menu progress, and updating organizational materials for the food industry;

• Managing a team of Food Service Innovation professionals to ensure they achieve their goals, including providing staff with guidance and advice, training, performance management, leadership development and career development;

• Coordinating and developing support materials related to plant-based initiatives including promotional materials, training and curricula for foodservice professionals, presentations, web site text, marketing materials, promotions, videos, guides and standard operating procedures.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience required;

• A minimum of five (5) years of experience working with the food industry, specifically in creating animal friendly policies, like animal welfare reforms and/or plant-based initiatives required;

• Management/supervisory experience preferred;

• Strong knowledge of nutrition with a focus on creating plant-based policies;

• Strong knowledge of food and food service industry procurement;

• Strong knowledge about factory farming and a commitment to the goals of the organization to improve farm animal welfare;

• Must be willing and able to travel extensively;

• Ability to lead and guide staff to meet department and organizational goals. Strong knowledge of staff management practices. Flexible, willing to learn, and anticipates the needs of self and staff;

• Ability to set a positive tone for employees during their day;

• Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated and proactive;

• Ability to manage issues requiring problem resolution and conflict management with excellent interpersonal and intervention skills;

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

• Attention to detail and commitment to excellence, demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;

• Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred.

This position is in the DC Metro Area- Remote Eligible
