Primary Purpose
Manage the Clinical Informatics Learning Team. Develop, design, and execute a comprehensive training program for new clinical hires to ensure staff competency in the electronic health record and other technology that interfaces with care delivery. Perform needs assessments, update lesson plans, and exercises based on build changes, and manage curriculum for new hires, updates, rollouts, and optimization. Collaborate with clinical and Information Technology (IT) teams to develop and deliver training materials including any updates to policies and procedures. Manage the Epic training environments to support clinical workflow practice and training.
Minimum Specifications
Education
- Must have a bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Prefer a master’s degree in a related field
Experience
- Eight (8) plus years of experience in the planning, development, and evaluation of adult education programs or related experience.
- Must have three (3) plus years of management or supervisory experience or related experience leading teams.
- Must have four (4) plus years of project experience managing complex projects in healthcare
- Must have four (4 plus years of progressive experience in computer applications and / or computer operations.
- Two (2) plus years of experience in Epic documenting and reviewing patient charts.
- Prefer three (3) plus years of clinical experience.
- Prefer (2) plus years of experience in maintain Epic training and playground environment, including patient build and mitosis.
- Prefer experience training Epic’s suite of clinical applications.
Equivalent Education and/or Experience
- May have an equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of specific education and experience as stated above.
Certification/Registration/Licensure
- Must have current healthcare provider CPR course completion card from one of the following:
- American Heart Association
- American Red Cross Rescuer
- Military Training Network.
- Prefer RN license or valid temporary permit with the Texas Board of Nursing; or, valid Compact RN license, or other licensed healthcare professional
- Prefer proficiency/certification in Epic application and TED
Skills or Special Abilities
- Must have knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training, design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and measurement of training effects.
- Must have demonstrated ability to train in complex academic healthcare setting.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to interact effectively with all levels of internal/external staff, consultants, and vendors.
- Must have excellent personal computer skills in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel software; conduct/lead meetings, and create agenda/minutes
- Must be well-versed and facile with the Epic EHR in the subject area of the designated duties for the job.
Responsibilities
- Creates and manages the development of curriculum for all clinical roles (physician, APP, nurse, respiratory therapist, dietitian, social worker, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech language pathologist, case manager, unlicensed assistive personnel, health unit coordinator, radiology technician, emergency technician and any other clinical role). Manage principal trainers and training team tasks.
- Selects, trains, schedules, motivates, supervises, evaluates, and makes recommendations for disciplinary actions up to and including termination, to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities. Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge.
- Assists with the development and administration of the annual department budget to ensure that the department has the necessary funds to carry out established goals and objectives.
- Collaborates with stakeholders (physicians, Clinical Education department, Nursing Operations Specialists, nursing leaders, Quality, Safety, Regulatory, Performance Improvement and ancillary leaders) to identify learning needs and align clinical learning and development strategy with the organizations overall business objectives and needs related to new hire learnings, updates, rollouts, and optimization efforts.
- Develops training playground environment strategy which includes coordinating refreshing schedules and developing playground/practice environments. Oversee training environment (MST) build. Coordinate training environment tasks and milestones with appropriate stakeholders.
- Research, analyze, and make recommendations for application workflow improvements based on a deep understanding of the clinical workflow.
- Creates, implements, and facilitates super user groups and various other user groups; provides on-going support to clinical users.
- Coordinates support, including processing and follow-up of requests for enhancements and changes from users and /or others affected by the system.
- Communicate schedule and training registration process to department leaders and/or project stakeholders
- Develops policies and procedures for introducing, evaluating, and modifying information technology applied to clinical practice. Collaborates with the key stakeholders to update and revise policies and procedures.
- Stays abreast of the latest training developments, advancements, and trends in the field of Health Care Informatics, by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, and actively participating in professional organizations. Integrates knowledge gained from current work practices. Participates in all safety, security and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as those required and provided by the department.
- Keep users informed about on-going training programs.
- Coordinate and standardize training materials.
- Identify and allocate resources needed for training such as workstations, printers, projectors/screens, barcode scanners, and other equipment needed for classroom training.

Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
- Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
- Develops and monitors annual budgets that ensure the department has the necessary funds to carry out the goals and objectives that have been established for the department.
- Develops, implements, monitors, and revises annual goals and objectives for the department that support the missions and objectives of Parkland.
