We are currently recruiting for a Maintenance Technician, Instrumentation & Electrical. This position reports to the Maintenance Superintendent and is located at our Sasol Tucson, AZ Facility.


Purpose of Job

Maintains plant equipment by using various hand and power tools, and test equipment to diagnose, calibrate, and repair plant machinery.


Key Accountabilities

  • Maintain facility electrical systems
  • Maintain, document, and repair equipment electronic control systems and instrumentation
  • Graphic panel displays, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), digital and analog communication modules and single loop analog controls
  • Maintain, repair, and calibrate instrumentation and control systems associated with processing equipment to ensure that production and quality targets are achieved
  • Maintain boiler and water treatment systems (softener and reverse osmosis units) as well as addition of boiler chemicals and repair of boiler and pumps
  • Maintain and repair motors, transformers, motor control centers, breakers, control systems, plant lighting, and 120 volts to 480-volt in-plant systems
  • Assist in determining electrical requirements of new system installations
  • Assist in determining electronic component requirements required of new and existing system installations
  • Fluent in understanding various forms of electrical and mechanical diagrams and schematics
  • The Instrumentation/Electrician Technician ensures:
    • A high level of Sasol workforce and contract service performance in regard to Sasol’s Safety and Health Policies, ISO9001, and plant policies and practices
    • Repairs and modification are with national codes and industry practice
    • Provides input on training programs to keep training current and relevant
    • Appropriate support to the Engineering on project installations and startup
    • Supports continuous improvement efforts to optimize plant performance
    • Safe working practices and maintenance of the equipment safely

Formal Education

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associate or Technical degree in electrical (preferred)

Working Experience

  • Minimum 2 years experience repairing plant process equipment (preferred)
  • 5+ years of industrial experience working with low/high voltage equipment used in an industrial setting (preferred)
  • 5+ years of PLC programming (preferred)

Required Personal and Professional Skills

  • Knowledge of automation and electrical best practices
  • Ability to operate equipment such as forklifts, boom trucks, aerial lifts, etc.
  • Ability to follow instructions and to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs; push or pull up to 100 lbs.; ascend and descend steps or ladders; bend or kneel; work out of doors for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to wear a respirator
