Steel and Metal Systems, Inc. is seeking a full-time maintenance technician for our manufacturing plant in Blackshear, GA. The Maintenance Technician will perform general maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment and facilities including fluid power, electrical, mechanical, and other production systems. Maintenance technicians will oversee the performance and maintenance of large production machinery.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Inspects and identifies equipment or machines in need of repair to identify problems or issues.
• Troubleshoots issues to determine necessary repairs and identifies the causes of unexpected breakdowns of machines.
• Repairs broken machines quickly and efficiently.
• Plans repair work using building’s blueprints or equipment manual as needed. * Performs welding as necessary as part of your regular duties.*
• Thoroughly cleans, oils, and lubricates machines and machine parts to ensure effective performance.
• Prepares reports documenting work performed.
• Coordinates with managers to schedule regular preventative maintenance on machines.
• Collaborates with product manager or plant engineers regarding new products being added and modifications that will be required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Thorough knowledge of general hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical repair.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior maintenance workers.
• Ability to read blueprints, building plans, and repair manuals.
• Ability to perform MIG and SMAW welding.
• Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must have at least 3 years maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
• You must have 9 months of continuous work history with one employer within the past 12 months.
• Some vocational college with related coursework, preferred.
• On-the-job training offered.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods standing and walking.
• Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
