JOB SUMMARY:

Maintenance Technician will report directly to the Maintenance Supervisor and have the responsibility to troubleshoot, repair, install and maintain various electrical and mechanical equipment in an industrial plant operating on a 24-hour / 7-day schedule. Individual must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety. Individual must also interface with all plant employees and effectively communicate any equipment issues. This position is currently following a day shift Monday through Friday schedule with required overtime as needed and call-ins as scheduled.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The role of the Maintenance Technician is to be part of a team responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and maintaining all mechanical and electrical plant equipment. Such equipment includes but is not limited to pumps, gearboxes, piping systems, motors, control circuits, VFDs, and electrical power distribution equipment.
  • The person in this role must diagnose process and equipment problems and take appropriate measures to resolve issues.
  • Maintenance Technicians must become familiar with relevant maintenance department SOP’s and learn the plant processes and hazards associated with them. They must be safety conscious and follow all plant safety policies and procedures (e.g. fall protection, confined space). They must also become familiar with the proper PPE task requirements and learn the department’s role in the Emergency Response Plan.
  • All Maintenance Technicians must actively participate in near miss reporting, incident investigations, and safety housekeeping audits and must also initiate and complete the proper documentation of work orders in the SAP system.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Physical Abilities: 1. Pass a routine physical examination and drug test. 2. Lift and control a minimum of 50-pound load from floor level to standing position. 3. Regularly walk, bend, squat, climb stairs, ladders, scaffolds. 4. Work in both indoor and outdoor environments year-round. 5. Ability to wear appropriate PPE including full face respirator, steel toe shoes, safety glasses, hard hat etc.

Equipment Skills: 1. Thorough understanding of electrical theory, process instrumentation, and control systems. 2. Ability to troubleshoot and maintain industrial electrical and mechanical systems. 3. Ability to use basic hand tools as well as various power tools. 4. Ability to use various measurement and test equipment such as multimeter, equipment alignment tools, etc. 5. Proficiency with computer and Microsoft products.

Personal Skills: 1. Self-motivated, quality and safety conscious individual. 2. Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and written, and read and follow instructions with minimal supervision. 3. Excellent interpersonal skills and the willingness to learn from and train others.

EDUCATION:

  • Must have High School diploma or equivalent
  • Three or more years of maintenance experience in an industrial or chemical facility is preferred
  • Strongly Preferred: Solid industrial electrical skills with desire and ability to develop mechanical/millwright skills
