We have Opening’s as a Finished Goods Maintenance Technician on Day Shift (1) Night Shift (2). One has to be able to set up, operate, troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and rebuild all qualified pieces of equipment in the Finished Goods Department. Day shift Candidate’s will report to the Assistant Plant Manager. Night Shift Candidate’s will report to NS inside Superintendent. One will have to coordinate work and resolve production and equipment problems. NOTE: There are four levels of skill and machinery competence involved in this job. Maintenance Technicians start at job grade 104 and can progress up with increasing knowledge and skill. High school plus trades training required. CRC (Bronze level or higher) a plus. Certificates of Completion in Maintenance Curriculum, or equivalent experience a plus. Experience in an automated production plant a plus. Strong working knowledge of automation, instrumentation and mechanical principles needed. Strong time management, communication, organization and computer skills needed. Ability to read, write and speak English required. 1-2 years experience in an automated production plant a plus.

Key Functions

  • Utilizes knowledge of complex mechanical and electrical principles required to set-up, troubleshoot, repair, replace, disassemble or overhaul a variety of complex mechanical equipment in finished goods department.
  • Troubleshoots, makes repairs, or replaces machinery and equipment based on work request or verbal instructions. Installs, overhauls and rebuilds machinery and equipment based on need and approval. Completes minor electrical, calibration, setup, and programming modifications. Basic knowledge of motors, drives, sensors, and PLC’s with ability to troubleshoot and repair.
  • Diagnoses cause of equipment failure and makes repairs to equipment in department.
  • Uses Computerized Management System (CMMS) to enter, receive, review, update and close work orders. Assigns time to work orders and activities. Completes assigned Preventive and Predictive Maintenance Tasks.
  • Visually and physically monitors production on all lines.
  • Assures that daily and weekly operational and pre-operational checks are completed on all equipment. Writes work requests for any repairs and has supervisor approve.
  • Monitors to assure that all product adheres to food safety and quality critical limits. The lead machine operator/mechanic’s absence will be covered by another employee trained to monitor food safety and quality.
  • Monitors production run throughout the shift. Reports problems to Supervisor.
  • Communicates with and assists maintenance, engineering, and production personnel with equipment repairs and preventive maintenance as needed.
  • Notifies production planner of needed downtime for repairs, parts that need to be ordered and scheduling of all repairs in department.
  • Keeps work area clean and orderly.
  • Follows safety rules and company policies.
  • Uses mathematics together with complicated equipment diagrams, specifications, charts, tables, and various types of precision measuring instruments.
  • Mentor department Lead OMs, OMs, machine operators and machine attendants if needed
  • Must be able to work independently, to plan sequence of and make decisions concerning mechanical procedures and fully perform any of the tasks listed above. Must be able to learn and apply new technology in equipment mechanics and instruct Technicians of lesser skill or experience.
  • Understands and is proficient in the use of all machinery, tools, and equipment listed in “Machinery, Tools & Equipment Used” Section.

Other Duties

  • Uses personal computer in some job tasks, primarily in machine troubleshooting.
  • Operates forklift and own or company vehicle in performance of some job tasks.
  • Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, project teams, etc. as appropriate. Some training may require travel.
  • Receives written and verbal instructions on the above tasks and performs other work as directed by supervisor.
