Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician assists production in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical machine related issues. The Maintenance Technician performs skilled maintenance activities such as cutting tool replacements, troubleshooting of machine workholding, mechanical repairs, equipment rebuilds, plumbing, welding and electrical installations. The Maintenance Technician also performs all necessary preventive maintenance on production and building equipment as required.
Functions

  • Troubleshoots the tooling and the mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical machine systems to identify, resolve and prevent problems in the processes
  • Sets up, maintains and troubleshoots the work-holding on machines (i.e. lathe chucks, VMC chucks, broach chucks, induction hardening fixtures)
  • Maintains and replaces damaged or worn machine tooling (i.e. lathe toolholders & blocks, induction hardening coils)
  • Troubleshoots & performs minor programming/reteaching of machine automation (i.e. linear servo slide gantry units, articulating arm robots)
  • Follows up on needs of the production floor with breakdown issues and expedites corrective actions through ordering of components or scheduling service technicians
  • Utilizes information on past work orders to understand how to correct equipment issues.
  • Occasionally operates manufacturing equipment (i.e. for testing and troubleshooting purposes)
  • Performs all preventive maintenance on production and building equipment to ensure minimal unplanned production downtime
  • Provides suggestions to Maintenance Manager on Preventative Maintenance components and if they are being properly maintained
  • Maintains maintenance records for inspection, repair and preventive maintenance activities performed throughout the work day
  • Works with Engineering or directly with equipment suppliers to locate and order necessary non-inventory repair parts
  • Fabrication of support accessories such as tables, stands, guarding, etc. – sometimes without the aid of a formal print
  • Uses fork lift equipment to relocate machinery and other subsidiary equipment
  • Accurately accounts for hours worked by entering hours and work performed into the daily timesheet within Plex
  • Performs other associated responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must demonstrate proficiency in analytical reasoning to effectively and systematically troubleshoot process issues
  • Has sufficient vocabulary; understands and interprets written information; follows written and verbal directions
  • Must know how to use basic part and machine measurement equipment such as calipers, micrometers, linear height gages, optical comparators, voltmeters and ohm meters
  • Must possess basic computer skills in such software as Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Familiarity with various machining operations such as turning, milling, drilling, spline forming, induction hardening, grinding, etc.
  • Works well in a team environment with a positive, constructive attitude
  • Demonstrated ability to work with hands and work in mechanically oriented situations following instructions of a supervisor
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision, given proper instructions
  • Trained and experienced with hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and electrical systems on production grade equipment, i.e. pumps, fans, motors, PLCs, servo drives
  • Experience with Fanuc Robotics, Fanuc processors & controls, Allen-Bradley PLC programming a must.
  • Ability to design and fabricate various support accessories using metal, aluminum, Lexan or plastic materials
  • Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved
  • Skilled in the care and use of tools and equipment used in the trades involved including hoists and forklifts Ability to understand and use both English and metric units of measurement
  • Flexibility for occasional travel for training or new equipment evaluations
  • Flexibility to work any production shift

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2 year technical degree or diploma from a vocational school preferred
  • 5+ years maintenance mechanic preferred
  • Personal inventory of a full complement of maintenance tools & necessary instruments
  • Minimum age 18 years.
  • Basic computer skills.

Physical demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch.

The employee must regularly lift and move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
