Role. This is a seasonal position. Weekly hours will average 30 hours per week; overtime is likely. The primary purpose of this position is to assist in the annual leaf collection program and operate equipment in the removal of snow and ice from roadways, parking lots, and sidewalks. Non-weather event work hours are Monday through Friday during the day. Weather-related work hours will vary. This is a direct-labor position that operates motorized equipment which requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), as well as motorized equipment that does not require a CDL, along with power tools and hand tools such as but not limited to:

  • Motorized Equipment: CDL required vehicles; and pick-up trucks, dump trucks, tractors, snowplows, salt spreaders, street sweepers, backhoes, and like motorized equipment; and
  • Power tools: chainsaws, tree trimmers, post hole diggers, drills, saws, concrete saws, screw-guns, mowing equipment, floor-care machines, weed whips, and like power tools; and
  • Hand tools: shovels, rakes, hammers, ladders, sledgehammers, screwdrivers, saws, pliers, trowels, chisels, wrenches, pruners, brooms, mops, squeegees, brushes, and like hand tools

The incumbent will use the above equipment, power tools, and hand tools in completing maintenance, reconstruction, and construction work, primarily in the outdoors, such as but not limited to:

  • Serving as a project lead as may be assigned
  • Removing snow and ice conditions from streets, sidewalks, and parking lots
  • Trimming and removing trees
  • Landscaping (mowing, trimming, pruning, planting, watering, weeding)
  • Street, sidewalk, curb, and gutter maintenance (patching macadam, forming and pouring concrete, sweeping, etc.)
  • Cleaning restrooms, offices, windows, mopping, vacuuming, sweeping, emptying trash containers
  • Building maintenance work painting (interior and exterior), replacing ceiling tile, adjusting doors, repairing windows, flooring, walls, and other interior surfaces.
  • Directional and identifying signpost and sign installation and repair
  • Stormwater management system cleaning and repair
  • Clean, maintain and repair equipment and tools
  • Community litter patrol, sweeping, removing bulk items, emptying, repairing, and replacing community trash receptacles.

The seasonal position reports to the Operations Manager, though, may receive daily assignments and direction from designated team leads.

Department. The Department provides direct and contracted maintenance of Town facilities and infrastructure. An established maintenance plan is followed, but the response may be required in emergency situations. Facilities include various buildings, parks, parking lots, and open spaces. Infrastructure includes, but is not limited to, the Town-owned roads, sidewalks, Streetlights, stormwater, public signage, tree canopy, and amenity systems. Most department functions are performed outdoors, requiring exposure to various weather and environmental conditions. The Department also provides a limited direct reconstruction of facilities and infrastructure. Department staff performs duties individually, as part of an assigned workgroup, or as a larger team. Each member is required to perform manual labor regardless of a specific project, task, or role.

Experience. Basic knowledge of motorized equipment, power, and hand tools used in public works. Work history that demonstrates the ability to successfully identify conditions that require maintenance and the ability to perform routine maintenance tasks under changing and, at times, harsh environmental conditions. Demonstrated ability to read, understand and follow safety protocols and instructions in completing assigned tasks.

Education. Possesses, at a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent or ability to obtain within one year.


Licensure. Must possess and maintain a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a satisfactory driving history.

Mental. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing; understand instructions and safety protocols. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships and to be courteous, discreet, and polite in all interactions. Ability to recognize potential hazards and communicate concerns.


Physical requirements. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus for the operation of machines and equipment—determination, accuracy, and thoroughness of work; and observation of general surroundings. Moderate/heavy physical work requiring the lifting and carrying of up to fifty (50) pounds and the exertion of seventy-five (75) pounds of force is routine. Physical activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching, fingering, grasping, repetitive motions, and sitting for extended periods in equipment operation. Work requires strenuous manual labor, including, but not limited to, digging, shoveling, sweeping, raking, hauling, crawling, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, and climbing. Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time under adverse weather conditions and rough terrain.


Hourly Rate: $23.77
