What you will be doing:
The incumbents of these positions will be performing a variety of maintenance, repairs, new installations and yearly road maintenance of State and federally owned facilities/property in support of Department and Military and Veterans Affairs, as Directed by the Supervisor, through the Building Facility Construction Foreman.

The State of Alaska Air Guard Facilities Maintenance Division exists to support the Air National Guard which organizes, trains, and equips airmen proficient in strategic and tactical airlift, air defense, air refueling, combat search and rescue, missile warning, space surveillance, and combat support, while remaining adaptable to meet future missions for the state and our nation.

The working environment you can expect:
These positions are located on Eielson AFB, however, the incumbents will work out of a utility vehicle most of the workday, providing maintenance and repairs as required. Depending on the project, the incumbents will work independently or as part of a team.

Who we are looking for:
To be successful in these positions, a candidate will need the following core competencies:
  • Ability to perform duties utilizing prior training and/or experience in a variety of maintenance tasks
  • Knowledge of the safe and proper use and care of tools common to equipment and building maintenance
  • Complete required written reports such as incident reports, material requests and timesheets
  • Ability to apply and follow limited verbal and written instruction
  • We would prefer strong knowledge in HVAC systems and DDC systems, but not a requirement

The successful applicant must pass a federal background check in order to qualify for military base access, which is required with this position's work location within the Eielson Air Force Base. The background check may include fingerprinting. All job offers are conditional pending successful completion of the federal background check and issuance of a Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) card allowing base access. You must be able to maintain a DBIDS throughout your employment. If using a private vehicle you will be required to hold a valid Alaska Driver's License, proof of vehicle insurance, and a valid State of Alaska vehicle registration at the time of appointment.

State employees are guests on base, clearance and access is not within the State's control.

Special Note: In addition, some employees must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC). As part of the examination process, a background check investigation, including a criminal record check, will be conducted. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude appointment. The circumstances involved in the conviction will be considered.

Minimum Qualifications

Vacancies in this job class are filled through Union referral, except for promotions, demotions, transfers, and emergency appointments.

  • These positions require frequent travel within the State (normally one trip of up to 3 days in length occurring monthly.
