Role Summary

To work safely and efficiently, by leading maintenance team to support production goals and maximizing uptime to achieve customer order requests. It is expected that there is a commitment for never ending improvements and a positive relationship to fellow Team Members and Leaders, while supporting the Magna Employee’s Charter and the policies and procedures of BGM.

  • Know and understand Bowling Green Metalforming Quality and Environmental policies.
  • Follows and supports and Magna’s operating principles, including:

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure daily pre-shift inspections are completed, conduct unplanned inspection audits on a weekly basis and planned inspection audits once a month.
  • Ensure weekly safety talks in pre-shift meetings are being conducted with team members signing safety training roster.
  • Understand and promote Magna’s philosophies and the Employee’s Charter.
  • Schedule, supervise, coordinate and direct the activities of skilled trade team members to ensure that production levels and quality standards are met.
  • Develop programs for record retention, continuous improvement, build standards and job training.
  • Establish and maintain effective communications with all other departments as well as conduct all business activities in a professional manner.
  • Plan and direct the utilization of resources to achieve the most effective results.
  • Supervise all skilled trade team members in accordance with the principles of the Employee Charter, policies and procedures set out in the BGM Team Member Handbook.
  • Act on behalf of the Department Leader in their absence and assume the full role of the Team Leader in their absence.
  • Follow and comply with all operational/procedures/policies as stated in the employee Environmental Health and Safety programs and conduct team Safety Talks.
  • Utilize interactive management principles when implementing corrective discipline procedures in dealing with Team Members, encourage professional development to enhance team performance, and cross train to maximize flexibility and coverage to accommodate vacations and absences.
  • Promote, participate and implement Lean activities as they are introduced such as 5S, Kanban, PDCA’s and Standardized work.
  • Immediately investigate all accidents and injuries within 24 hours initiating the accident and injury investigation program resulting in implementation of corrective action.
  • Participate in hiring process by conducting interviews as required.
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable federal, state and local regulations including all BGM safety standards.
  • Provide technical expertise as needed.
  • Mentor and support Team Leaders in providing timely job performance reviews to team members.
  • Provide timely coaching, counseling and feedback to Team Members through one-on-one sessions, performance evaluations, conduct team meetings and facilitate teambuilding endeavors.
  • Ability to coach, counsel, and train maintenance technicians.
  • Support Andon escalation procedure.
  • Assist in implementing and managing to KPI’s to help shop achieve goals.
  • Drive training and development of current team in addition to new team members.
  • Support and complete preventative maintenance projects and goals.
  • Support Mafact initiatives and TPM.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Directly leads Maintenance team members.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; 2-years degree from accredited technical college preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an automotive manufacturing environment as a maintenance technician
  • Previous maintenance leadership preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
  • Must have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Must have strong interpersonal and leadership abilities
  • Ability to prioritize workload and establish goals and deadlines for self and team
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet departmental and BGM’s needs
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Must be willing to work in various locations within and outside the facility
  • Must possess working knowledge and understanding of manufacturing equipment and have good manufacturing background
  • Strong electrical and hydraulic knowledge/troubleshooting abilities
  • Robotics and automation knowledge preferred
  • Must possess working knowledge and understanding of quality systems, standards and procedures
  • Ability to multi-task and pay attention to detail
  • Must possess good human relations, leadership skills and maturity in judgment
  • Able to operate and maintain all machinery and equipment in his/her assigned area
  • Must have good organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Office and General factory environment
  • Able to be flexible in hours of work on short notice in order to meet internal/external customer requirements (scheduled and non-scheduled overtime shifts, etc.)
