Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) Manufacturing Support group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Machinist.

Our team works an on-site 4x10 schedule located at our ATR facility with every Friday off!

Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform a wide scope of technical assignments with advanced skills as a machinist, CNC programmer, and design consultant. Recognized as an authority on machining, fabrication, tooling applications, processing methods, CNC programming and technical leadership.
  • Obtain and maintain qualifications for applicable job code.
  • Work to drawings, schematics, and work specifications to produce successful outcomes using modern techniques and tools of the trade.
  • Operate mills, lathes (manual and CNC), and other machine shop equipment consistently and reliably to perform close tolerance precision machining and fabrication activities.
  • Provide accurate estimates of shop work and maintain the accuracy of work packages by ensuring documentation of activities as the work is completed.
  • Collaborate directly with engineering, designers, and scientific researchers to help resolve technical fabrication issues while at times functioning as a lead over the shop when directed by line management.

  • Read and understand technical and industrial signs, manuals, and labels.
  • Maintain information on time sheets and other records.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Work independently to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Participate in work planning walk downs and work-hour estimating.
  • Perform on-the-job training (OJT) for other craftspeople.
  • Participate in maintenance assessments.
  • Perform material procurement duties.
  • Perform work to proper work control and clearly document and record work that is performed.
  • Develop CNC programs. Work with members of engineering and research groups in fabrication and assembly of components. Document fabrication and quality related information in work packages.
  • Read and interpret drawings and sketches proficiently. Review designs with customers to help define job requirements, offer recommendations for improving product design, fabrication, testing, and assembly. Provide status on jobs in progress to project leaders and management. Resolve problems and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Routinely function as lead over shop/projects when directed by management.
  • Maintain all training and qualifications (Individual Training Plan and Job Function Requirements).
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices by keeping work areas clean and organized.

QUALIFICATIONS


Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED and 7 years of relevant experience, or vocational certification or trade apprenticeship and 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Must possess and demonstrate expert skills in the fabrication process and be experienced in the use of major machine shop equipment.
  • Must be proficient with programming, posting, and performing Mastercam or comparable CAD/CAM systems in 4 or more axis.
  • Ability to process a DXF drawing and solid model format through a CAM system to create machine code.
  • Experience in CNC machining, fabrication, and quality assurance.
  • Experience interpreting tolerances and GD&T inspection requirements..
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete required facility specific, continuous, and professional development training for duration of employment.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Job Information

  • Hourly wage: 2nd Class: $38.69/hr / 1st Class: $43.21/hr (Rates can vary based upon individual work location, clearances, and qualifications. Rates are accurate for current posting and subject to change. These are bargaining unit positions.)
