BACKGROUND

The Village of Fox Lake (population 10,978) is located 55 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and 20 miles west of Waukegan, Illinois. Fox Lake is located in Lake and McHenry counties. The Village is located on the South Shore of Pistakee Lake, Nippersink Lake, and Fox Lake, three connected water bodies that form part of the Chain O’Lakes system. The Village of Fox Lake has a total area of 9.942 square miles of which around 20% is water.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Operator position assists in the operations and maintenance of the Village’s Sewer and Water Services, including six ground water wells, four elevated storage tanks, three iron filtration tanks, booster station, and twenty six sewer lift stations.

SUPERVISION

Reports to and works under the general direction of the Sewer and Water Supervisor.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Inspects the water and wastewater systems for proper operations. Performs required daily checks and documents required information.
• Installs, cleans, and repairs or replaces water meters.
• Checks meters, gauges, pumps, valves, and control panels to verify correct operation of equipment and records information.
• Ability to perform and interpret chemical analysis of the water and wastewater systems.
• Operates and maintains pumps, control panels, chlorinators, and chemical feed pumps. Inspects stations for proper operation.
• Compiles required information for local, state and Federal reporting.
• Insures compliance with state, federal, and local regulations.
• Locates and repairs water and sewer mains.
• Maintains fire hydrants, wellhouse structures, water towers, sewer mains forcemains, and lift stations.
• Operate sewer cleaning and televising equipment.
• Attend safety meetings/training and follows safety precautions according to OSHA standards.
• Performs water audits, and responds to inquiries, complaints, and emergencies and resolves service requests with residents, businesses.
• Logs completed daily maintenance and work orders.
• Reviews, collects, and inputs data into the Villages GIS system.
• Responds to SCADA Alarms and monitors SCADA for system needs.
• Performs grounds maintenance and maintenance checks of all department vehicles.
• Performs other duties as apparent or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake and tanker endorsement. Class D IEPA Water License, and a Collection System Certificate.

Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment physical/drug screen examination following a conditional employment offer.

CONTACTS OUTSIDE OF DEPARTMENT

This position frequently interacts with other Sewer and Water employees and on occasion, other Village staff members. The employee frequently interacts with residents, business owners and vendors.
