Copy Cataloging & Interlibrary Loan Assistant
Position Summary
The Copy Cataloging & Interlibrary Loan Clerk works as a full-time hourly member of the West Library’s Technical Services Department team in support of patron access to research materials. Responsibilities include working with the Collection Management Librarian to supply quality bibliographic records for the library catalog, managing the lending and borrowing process of the interlibrary loan (ILL) service, and collection preservation as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Selects, edits and uploads full-level, RDA compliant, Library of Congress bibliographic records for use in the local catalog, representing newly purchased and gift items in the library collections.
- Works within WorldShare management system to participate in Interlibrary Loan services for our patrons: makes requests for our patrons’ book and article needs; fulfills book and article requests from other libraries. Keeps accurate records and professional communication with patrons and fellow ILL libraries.
- Helps keep the catalog system current by updating records not in RDA compliance, transferring items, inventory of collection, working on special projects as assigned, etc.
- Physically prepares new items for patron use, de-selection processing, repairs damaged items, etc.
- Available for circulation backup, providing exceptional public service
- Pick up and distribute the library’s mail as needed
- Monitor and order technical services supplies as needed
- Compile copy cataloging and ILL statistics on a monthly basis
- Attend Technical Services Team meetings and library staff meetings monthly
- Participate in library events and in professional development opportunities when possible, including serving on library committees.
Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Master’s of Library Science/Information Science from ALA accredited institution preferred
Experience
Previous library experience in Technical Services preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Familiarity with RDA cataloging standards
- Experience in cataloging several formats such as books, ebooks, audio/visual materials and scores
- Experience with OCLC, ILS systems, and OPACs, such as WorldShare, Connexion & SirsiDynix
- Experience with navigating databases and searching for holdings in WorldCat
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail
- Ability to plan, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while working on multiple tasks
- Ability to work individually and within a team environment
- Ability to adhere to university, library and departmental policies and procedures
