Job Description
Old Dominion University’s (ODU) Department of STEM Education and Professional Studies seeks applicants for a full-time, ten-month, faculty position as a Lecturer of Library and Information Studies to start July 25, 2023.
The ODU Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) is an ALA-accredited program delivered in an online and asynchronous format. Faculty are committed to delivering a program recognized for our commitment to leadership, social justice, and authentic practice informed by a context of innovative technology and community. We seek a lecturer to contribute to the growth of the MLIS through an area of specialization such as archival studies, organization of information, digital librarianship and/or academic librarianship. Other specializations will also be considered.
The primary responsibilities for this position are:
- To develop and teach graduate online and asynchronous courses in library and information studies.
- To contribute to systematic planning and development of the library and information studies program.
- To participate in the professional and intellectual community through professional and university service.

Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities
- At least 3 years of professional and/or teaching experience in libraries, archives, or information organization.
- Demonstrated or potential ability to teach one or more of these MLIS Core classes: Knowledge Organization, Knowledge Resources, Library Management & Leadership.
Minimum Qualifications - Education or training
Master’s of Library Science or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program, or an earned PhD in Library, Information, or a related field.
Minimum Qualifications - Special licenses, registration or certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to teach the core course: Knowledge Organization and Access.
- An area of specialization such as archival studies, digital librarianship, or academic librarianship.
- Experience with online, asynchronous teaching.
