Lead Operations Technician Job at CHEP USA
Position Purpose
Responsible for managing a single shift operation. Required to provide leadership, training, mentoring, and potentially disciplinary actions in the development of employees, and ensure Zero Harm initiatives are always met. Responsible for all operational items related to running the facility, including, directing shift personnel, and implementing safety, quality, costs, production, service, and process initiatives to comply with all corporate policies, goals and objectives.
Major/Key Accountabilities
Lead the Pallet Test Track daily operations to produce quality durability data in a safe manner.
- Continuously identify and implement safety and process improvements for the overall operation.
- Plays an integral role in all new project definitions and manages execution of those projects.
- Ensures standard operating procedures along with safety guild lines are followed at all times.
- Ensures facility, equipment, and work areas are cared for, cleaned, and kept in good condition.
- Ensures plant operates within safety guidelines.
- Allocate manpower, materials and labor to achieve plant output to planned levels.
- Manages labor, material costs and overall plant effectiveness.
- Tracks productivity, inventory consumption etc., and analyzes and reports trends to management.
- Directs, coaches, trains and develops team members to meet corporate strategic goals and facility KPI objectives.
- Troubleshoot problems and liaise with other departments as necessary.
- Ensure all employees and visitors adhere to all safety guidelines at all times, with no exceptions.
- Available for emergency related items such as breakdowns, weather issues or last-minute requests.
- Other duties assigned by Manager.
- Work with HSE to keep all polices up to date and all GAP literature.
- Works with contractors to implement new equipment and troubleshoots and maintains existing equipment.
Manage equipment setups, data gathering and reporting for all PTT programs
- Provides support in the verification of all facility setups and calibration of equipment prior to test program launch.
- Maintains and follows PQS and product specifications in a documentation library to manage critical data.
- Manages equipment and inventory levels of raw materials and consumables to ensure proper levels for test needs.
Troubleshoot equipment and downtime issues as needed
- Support downtime during change over (be available to work day shift)
- Analyses operational data to identify opportunities and drive improved performance.
- Comfortable in and around equipment while following all safety protocols
- Works on line with conveyors and understands and employs the proper use of LOTO and emergency stops.
- Report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials and unsafe or unusual conditions to Manager.
- Equipment (conveyors, photo eyes, prox switch, I/O blocks, FMS, hydraulics) expertise and ability to troubleshoot line issues.
Drive testing procedures to ensure integrity and quality of data
- Provide support to the Test Engineer in the monitoring of damage rates.
- Ensure PQS are followed and adhered to during the tests.

Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
- Associate degree in a technical field such as industrial engineering or operations management or equivalent experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience supporting a high-performance testing or operational facility
- Skilled in lean manufacturing and/or experimental project execution, mechanical problem solving with an emphasis on product or production testing and validation
- Ability to excel independently or as member of cross-functional teams
Desirable Qualifications
- Knowledgeable in electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, welding, and logic controls (Proximity switch, photo eye experience)
- FMS and ADI experience
- RS Logic 5000 / Allen Bradley PLC
- Mechanical aptitude
- Desire to be part of a global product development team addressing diverse mechanical and supply chain applications
Experience
- A strong hands-on background with mechanical equipment
- Lean or Six Sigma training or at least strong data experience or aptitude in the context of operations, manufacturing, or product testing
- Ability to generate and analyse data by following test plan from engineers
Skills and Knowledge
- Skilled in the use of office tools such as MS Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word
- Mechanical equipment controls, product testing and evaluation
- Strong customer service skills, customer facing credibility
- Ability to troubleshoot basic equipment issues and provide solutions
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead a team
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $66,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
