What to Expect
A Lead Cell Recycling Operator at Gigafactory 1 is responsible for the equipment operation and overall production output of the Cell Recycling Plant. The operator is also responsible for ensuring all Cell Recycling equipment is operating at peak-efficiency in correlation with specific safety guidelines.
As a Tesla Gigafactory 1 Lead Cell Recycling Operator, you will have the opportunity to operate and support development of a pilot plant to full-scale operation and drive Tesla toward closing the loop on battery recycling. Cell Recycling Operators will work closely R&D process engineering to continuously develop and improve cell recycling systems that will help accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
What You’ll Do
· Operate and monitor proprietary cell recycling equipment, bulk material flow systems, high-flow exhaust and scrubber systems, water/wastewater systems, and separation equipment (e.g. magnetic separation systems, vibratory systems, etc.) according to design.
· Act as point of contact for plant operations and needs
· Monitor & control the high-level process dynamics and transformation occurring in each unit of operation (combustion, cell discharge, magnetic separation, dissection, shredding, etc.).
· Start and stop equipment as well as maintain facility operation through monitoring control software and verifying parameters/trends
· Provide support for new process equipment testing installation, commissioning, and sustainability
· Supply feedback on performance of process equipment highlighting issues and necessary/required improvements.
· Track process data and collect samples for analysis.
· Perform routine operator rounds of equipment and system checks
· Improve the reliability of equipment and systems through collaboration with R&D and Program Management and adjust process parameters to optimization.
· Provide emergency spill response/cleanup and perform decontamination of equipment
· Perform breakdown/processing and packaging of universal waste streams such as battery packs, modules, cells and R&D debris
What You’ll Bring
· Ability to prioritize Environmental, Health and Safety issues in the workplace.
· Required to work with and around hazardous areas and hazardous chemicals and materials
· General technical/mechanical understanding of chemical processes and strong troubleshooting skills
· Basic understanding of electrochemistry, chemical treatment, fine milling, gravity separation, pyro-metallurgy, etc.
· Experience with chemical handling and water distribution is desired
· Must demonstrate reliability, initiative, and desire to learn.
· Must be adaptable to work schedule and working in a fast-pace environment
· Effective verbal and written communications skills along with strong attention to detail, flexibility, and prioritization
· Maintains confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary information
· Multitasks and adapts to constant change
· Able to use Microsoft Office software
· Able to wear all required PPE associated with required tasks
· Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for 10+ hours per day, wear powered air purifying respirator as needed for specific tasks, Lift at least 50-75 lbs on a regular basis, perform repetitive hand and wrist motions and sometimes may have to twist and bend body, Ability to climb ladders/stairs, Work in loud environment. Must be able to discern audible alarms.
· 2 years of college/technical school or equivalent work experience.
· Applicable documented Training and/or Certifications is a plus.
· Basic math skills
· Basic knowledge of controls equipment including flow meters, level sensors and pressure sensors
· Basic mechanical aptitude
· Ability to operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, telehandlers, boom lifts, scissor lifts and carts
Work Environment / Essential Physical Demands
· Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day including but not limited to:
· Ability to work outside in the elements ranging from 0-110F in the wind, rain, and snow.
· Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 30 lbs. for up to 20 feet in distance.
· Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach
· Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time.
· Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures.
· Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing.
· Demonstrated ability to handle and manipulate tooling, quickly and accurately during new hire training and maintaining ability throughout employment
· Potential exposure to confined spaces and hazardous materials.
· Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hat , and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines.
- Ability to wear a full-face air-purifying respirator while performing mildly or moderately exertional tasks for 4 consecutive hours, up to 12 hours per day
- Open to schedule flexibility that will allow for a variety of shifts, including days, nights, or weekends as needed.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $43.00 - $57.00 per hour
