Position:
Landscaper 1

Department: Farm

Location: 110 Bonlinda Lane, Williams, OR 97544

Hours: Monday-Friday 7 am - 3:30 pm

Pay: $16.50/hr


Summary:
This position is responsible for the maintenance of assigned gardens, lawns and/or landscapes, by cultivating a wide variety of herbs and landscape plants, maintaining landscaping as directed and assisting with new hardscape and plant installations, thereby contributing to the positive public relations of the organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned:

  • Ensures that assigned lawns are maintained properly, by mowing, edging, and applying organic fertilizers as directed. Assures that lawns are mowed, trimmed and irrigated regularly.
  • Ability to effectively and safely use hand tools for weeding and pruning.
  • Ensures optimal appearance of assigned landscapes, by actively working in each area under close supervision, i.e. preparing soil and grading terrain, applying fertilizers and mulches, weeding, pruning and transplanting shrubs and plants as needed to maintain all assigned areas.
  • Ability to use mowers, leaf blowers and weed whippers safely and effectively under direction of lead gardener.
  • Maintains trees and shrubs properly, by pruning and fertilizing as recommended.
  • Willing to learn basic irrigation system components, design and repair.
  • Ensures safe working conditions, by following established safety procedures at all times and attending regular safety training. Serves as a good role model by practicing safe work habits and supporting all safety guidelines.

Secondary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Willingly provides back-up for members of the Farm Crew, i.e. assisting with weeding and harvesting of crops, as needed to ensure the production timelines are met.
  • Increases knowledge of job skills and prepares for further job responsibilities by participating in on-the-job training to become proficient at additional landscaping tasks.
  • Assists with efficient team operation and continuous process improvement by participating in all team and departmental meetings as requested.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma required
  • 1+ year of related hands-on experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiarity with the cultivation of herbs helpful.
  • Current valid driver’s license required, ability to travel occasionally

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.


Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Interpersonal Skills: Ability to quickly organize and communicate thoughts, and to understand communications from others. Ability to maintain composure, listen and respond appropriately, and deal pleasantly with co-workers when negative or argumentative situations arise in one-on-one communications either in person or over the phone.
