Work Unit Overview:
The Lewistown Unit Office is a portion of the Northeastern Land Office and is responsible for the administration of Trust Land and Forestry Division programs in Golden Valley, Wheatland, Petroleum, Fergus, Chouteau, Judith Basin, Hill and Blaine counties. This position will have the opportunity to choose which location they would prefer to work out of between Havre or Lewistown. The Havre Field Office is a satellite office of the Lewistown Unit.The Lewistown Unit is responsible for the management and administration of approximately 1,295,755 acres of School Trust Lands contained within the office boundaries. These responsibilities include lease administration, grazing, agricultural production, forest product sales, timber stand improvement, brush disposal, oil and gas permits, gravel and precious mining permits, right-of-way easements, land use licenses for other surface and subsurface uses, and administration of the recreational access Law. The Lewistown Unit Office also provides wildfire suppression support to all private and State lands within the office boundaries as well as assistance area wide.

Position Overview:
The Havre/Lewistown Land Use Specialist has administrative and operational responsibility for assigned departmental programs and field activities, property, and personnel within the defined geographic region of the Lewistown Unit. The Havre/Lewistown Land Use Specialist performs diverse administrative and scientific professional tasks in the design, implementation, coordination and evaluation of all assigned natural resource management programs and endeavors within the office.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):

The knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor of Science Degree in a Natural Resource Management field (preferably Range Management, Range Science, Agronomy or Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rangeland Ecology, Land Resources and Environmental Resources, Land Rehabilitation).

The Havre/Lewistown Land Use specialist must possess a thorough knowledge of plant taxonomy, range, agricultural soils, and interdisciplinary natural resource management principles, practices and procedures; applicable federal, state and local laws and rules, policies and procedures; and extensive knowledge of Trust Land Management administrative and management rules, policies and procedures.

The Havre/Lewistown Land Use Specialist must be highly skilled in oral and written communications and proficient in map reading, aerial photo interpretation, Global Positioning System and associate software office equipment, four-wheel drive vehicles, specialized fire control equipment, wireless devices such as iPads and cellular phones and associated software applications, and the State Trust Lands Management System.

Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States. A valid driver's license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent completed 36 months.

ELIGIBILITY TO WORK:
