Job Overview

Working outside in most types of weather, engaged in a wide variety of common laboring tasks. Performs heavy manual work, such as digging and backfilling trenches and holes, furniture, material and equipment moves. Performs work with gravel, asphalt and concrete in repairs of roads and walk paths. Moves or gravel. Operates power tools and equipment such as electric and air tools, pumps, and concrete saws. Works with shovels, picks, axes, jacks, brush cutters, and other hand tools. Use shovels, chemical de-icers, and other material to remove snow and ice from steps, walkways, and other areas. Assists other craft in holding tools, lifting, moving of material and equipment and confined space hole watch support. Cleans tools, shop areas, machines, and equipment as required.

Maintains tool control, vehicle assignments and maintenance records. Perform other related duties as required.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

• Performs tasks which require mainly physical abilities and effort involving little or no specialized skill or prior work experience.
• The following tasks are typical of this occupation: loads and unloads trucks and other conveyances; moves supplies and materials to proper location by wheelbarrows or hand trucks; stacks materials for storage or binning; collects refuse and salvageable materials.
• Digs, fills, and tamps earth excavations; levels ground using pick, shovel, tamper and rake; shovels concrete and snow; cleans culverts and ditches; cuts trees and brush; operates power lawnmowers; gutter/roof cleaning; carpet/vinyl flooring removal.
• May be assigned as flagger or Firewatch, if trained and certified.
• Moves and arranges heavy pieces of material, furniture, equipment, and appliances. Spreads sand and deicer on icy roads and walkways; picks up leaves and trash.
• Duties may include grounds maintenance laborer tasks. May be assigned to assist in the spill response team May be required to obtain and maintain asbestos certification for the purpose of removing asbestos.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Mandatory Requirements:

• Must obtain and maintain required explosives certifications when assigned to ordnance operations.
• Must meet and maintain company physical and security requirements, including respirator qualification, and clearance eligibility when required.
• Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.
• U.S. Citizenship.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI and to obtain and maintain access to the AEDC local area computer network.
