Job Summary
Under general direction the person in this position performs routine manual labor activities such as repairing or replacing needed structures, performs light maintenance and construction work such as painting, electrical work, repairs, concrete work and general carpentry. Essential Job Functions
MAINTENANCE
Handles general maintenance for all city buildings and sewer plant, including, but not limited to, painting, plumbing, electrical work and general maintenance to the buildings.
Works in the construction of new buildings performing general carpentry, plumbing and electrical.
CONSTRUCTION WORK
Operates backhoe and drives trucks performing construction and maintenance activities.
Reads and follows blueprints in construction and repair of buildings. Qualifications
~ Possess a valid Driver"s License.
~ Willing to work overtime and non-standard hours, weekends and holidays as needed.
Education and Work Experience
Possess a High School diploma or equivalent. Prefer technical school courses in carpentry, electrical and plumbing.
Prefer two years of experience as electrician in commercial electrical work.
Minimum of five (5) years carpentry experience.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Physical demands:
Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities, recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as typewriters and record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity.
Work environment:
Work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts or machines, with contagious diseases or irritant chemicals, etc. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles or shields.
