Job Summary
Under immediate direction the person in this position maintains city grounds, landscaping for numerous locations. Operates maintenance equipment and drives vehicles. Perform related work in other areas when needed. Perform routine manual labor activities such as cutting and watering grass, trimming shrubs, and planting flowerbeds. Essential Job Functions
Operates lawn mower, tractor, weed-eater, chainsaw and other equipment as necessary.

Operates tractor to maintain grounds using various attachments such as box blade, disc,
sprayer, etc.

Maintains grounds; including but not limited to: cutting weeds, cutting grass; spraying for ants, trimming trees and bushes, cleaning off side walks and general maintenance of all areas in the city that are landscaped by the city, such as: City Parks, City Hall, Fire Stations, Police Stations, Library, Recreation Center, Community Center, etc.

Handles general maintenance including but not limited to: painting, changing lights, removing trash and general maintenance to restroom and picnic buildings.

Qualifications
Possess a valid Alabama driver"s license.

Willing to work overtime and non-standard hours, weekends and holidays as needed.

Perform related duties as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Verbal skills to communicate with Supervisor, general public and co-workers.

Reading skills to read instruction manuals.

Skill in operation of equipment and tools.

Driving skills to safely operate vehicle.

Listening skills to follow verbal instructions.

Knowledge of landscaping materials and practices.

Knowledge of city rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Mechanical skills to perform routine maintenance checks on lawn and landscape
equipment.

Knowledge of safety rules, including accident causation and prevention.

Minimum of two years supervisory experience in landscaping.

Knowledge of chemicals to be used in department and maintaining chemical log. Education and Work Experience
High school diploma or related experience preferred. Physical Demands and Work Environment
The work involves moderate risks or discomforts, which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; with contagious diseases or irritant chemicals; etc. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, or shields.
The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as typewriters and record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity.
