Arkansas City, Kansas.
The CI Specialist position supports the KanPak Continuous Improvement System to drive process improvement in the plant as well as employee engagement. The focus is to drive improvements on the production floor as well as help drive towards standard work while keeping safety and food quality as a top priority.
Primary Objectives:
- Coordinates GSF Quality activities and operations to meet objectives for quality, food safety, regulatory compliances, cost, safety, and customer satisfaction at KanPak
- Participates in formulating and administering division’s short and long-range goals and objectives for business growth
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates the implementation of all continuous improvement activities including 5S programs, visual workplace, task time analysis, value stream mapping and visual workplace
- Coaches personnel on the Lean implementation process
- Assists in training of both new and current personnel in CI/TPM methodology
- Tracks CI progress through data collection and recording
- Updates weekly scorecards/goals with CI progress
- Orders supplies as needed to support the implementation of CI projects
- Provides guidance on creation of OPLs as needed
- Develops a familiarity with best practices of continuous improvement principles and tools
- Utilizes CI foundational concepts to promote plant improvements and drive cost saving initiatives, including during planned as well as unplanned shutdowns
- Assists CI Manager in facilitating teams in identifying opportunities, developing and implementing corrective actions including follow-up to improve the productivity, cost, quality, delivery, and safety of the facility
- Participates in CI Department Gembas
- Work with all levels of the organization to influence and drive results
- Partners with Department Owners to maintain and improve implemented processes
- Partners with Department Owners to maintain control plans based on standard work for implemented improvements
- Participates in manufacturing plant audits as substitute for CI Manager, as needed
- Assists CI Manager in facilitating internal lean/continuous improvement training and project management
- Contributes to the plant continuous improvement culture
- Knows and complies with all safety policies and procedures
- Maintains confidentiality of all matters
- Other duties as assigned by CI Manager
Qualifications:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field from an accredited college or university, preferred
- Greenbelt certification or training/certification in Lean Six Sigma methodologies, preferred
- One or more years of relevant work experience in manufacturing, continuous improvement, training and/or TPM
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Continuous Improvement concepts and processes
- Project Management concepts and techniques
- PC word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database software knowledge
- Regulatory policies/procedures and compliance/training (GMP, HACCP, OSHA)
- Productivity/quality standards: accuracy, timeliness, thoroughness
- Strategically influence all levels regarding TPM, T&D
- Teamwork within the department and across departments
- Customer satisfaction
- External relationships and compliance with vendors and contractors
- Motivate employees in a team-based environment
- Provide guidance on a variety of comprehensive administrative and technical documents and reports
- Prepare and deliver presentations to management, customers, and other representatives of external organizations
- Assist in developing capital improvement cost/benefit analyses and subsequent forms
- Travel via airplane and drive an automobile
- Work effectively in a general business environment, with a focus on high levels of quality and customer service
