KENNEL TECHNICIAN
Position Overview
The purpose of the kennel technician position is to provide a safe and sanitary facility for patients in the veterinary clinic setting.
Primary job duties include, but are not limited to, the following: animal handling and restraint, walking, feeding, assist surgery recovery technicians, cleaning of kennel areas and maintaining a stocked and organized facility to promote an efficient workspace.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
· Animal care and animal handling experience desirable but not required
· Some computer knowledge and experience required
· Experience in a busy work environment
· Previous veterinary practice or shelter experience desirable but not required
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS
The kennel technician must be able to:
· Be flexible in attitude and work habits
· Quickly learn how to pronounce, know the meaning of and spell commonly used veterinary terms
· Perform basic computer skills
· Physical effort: Work requires lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds of weight. Requires standing for extended periods of time
· Working conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal urine and feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches, and contagious diseases.
Key areas of responsibility
· Feel and express a genuine liking for animals and for working in an animal care environment
· Can conduct oneself in a confident and professional manner even when stressed and/or focused on individual tasks
· Can provide quality care to patients including walking, feeding, cleaning, grooming when required and basic nursing care if required
· Answer basic animal care questions and report specific information to medical staff
· Help support the medical staff and assist in procedures while safely restraining animals
· Assist vet techs or CSR Leads on specific tasks when asked, such as discharging a patient
· Maintain the appearance of the clinic and animal holding areas through cleaning and organization
· Maintain positive, cooperative relationships with other employees
· Display tact and diplomacy with staff members and clients even when busy or hectic
· Can work almost constantly in the presence of other staff members and clients
· Can deal intelligibly, pleasantly and efficiently with clients, often doing several things at one time
· Can accurately maintain medical records when required
· Greet clients and enter or update client and pet (animal) information into practice’s computer system
· Performs other duties as assigned
The mission of First Coast No More Homeless Pets is to make veterinary care affordable and accessible to all as we save lives by keeping dogs and cats in homes and out of shelters, provide low-cost spay/neuter services with emphasis on feral/community cats, and deliver a broad range of related programs and services.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour
