Juvenile Court Services Manager Job at Whatcom County, WA
Whatcom County's Superior Court is seeking a Juvenile Court Services Manager. This position assists with and is responsible for implementation of planning, organizing, staffing, and directing the efforts of staff, and other work and community groups to accomplish the work, mission and goals of the Juvenile Division of Superior Court.
Key duties include:
- Performs tasks related to administration of the department such as human resource management, financial management, efficient use of resources, legal compliance and timely execution of duties and roles performed by the Department.
- As assigned, directing work in the area of juvenile probation, intake, diversion, truancy, at risk youth, child in need services and detention alternatives.
- Assists with overseeing Court Dependency Professionals, Dependency Guardian Ad Litems, including volunteer Guardians Ad Litem.
- Determines individual employee needs for training to meet changing system or program demands and to provide adequate cross-training of all functions.
- As assigned, assists in the planning and development of the budget, work schedules and staffing levels. Assist with grant administration and responsible for grant applications at the State and Federal level. Directs or conducts the development of specifications, cost estimates and bid documents. Maintains expenditures within approved budget.
Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
- Juvenile and specialty court programs
- juvenile probation and detention
- Volunteer Guardian ad Litem (GAL) programs,
- associated programs
- record administration.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, public administration or a related field, AND 4 years of progressively responsible related experience in juvenile justice including at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
Experience administering evidence-based programs is highly desirable.
At its sole discretion, Whatcom County may consider combinations of education, experience, certifications, and training in lieu of specifically required qualifications contained herein.
Special Requirements of position:

Must have a driving record that meets County standards and possess a valid driver's license at time of hire and throughout employment.

Must complete (if not already completed) Juvenile Services Academy, First Level Supervision and Middle Management through the Criminal Justice Training Commission pursuant to RCW 43.101.220(2) and WAC 139-310 and 510.

Background check must meet County criteria including disclosure of serious crimes and sex crimes per RCW 43.43.

Must pass a polygraph examination.
