THE JUNIOR PROJECT ENGINEER AT CPL

As a member of the transportation engineering team, the Junior Civil/Transportation Engineer is an entry-level team member with a strong desire to learn. You’re technically nimble and passionate about details, actively embracing complexity, and you support our efforts to topple barriers through sustainable design. Reporting to a Project Engineer or Project Manager, you assist in the development of conceptual designs for small to large-scale transportation assignments.

Whether you’re performing highway design, bridge design, preparing reports, or generating cost estimates, you play a key role in advancing CPL’s mission, gleaning valuable knowledge from seasoned experts, honing your engineering skills and building an impressive portfolio of transportation system projects that improve quality of life on all levels – and you have fun doing it.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

  • BS in Civil Engineering (congrats!)
  • You’ve got 0 – 3 years of civil/transportation engineering experience (including internships)
  • An EIT certification is a major plus but not required
  • Desired to learn or work with Transportation
  • Knowledgeable of principles of engineering, physics, and math
  • You can perform moderately difficult technical computations and consolidate acquired data
  • You have a working knowledge of MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads, and perhaps AutoCAD, Civil3D, and Revit. You’re also proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office
  • You can comprehend and carry out elaborate oral or written instructions
  • An understanding of construction plans/specifications and their application to public works projects is a major plus

CORE DUTIES

  • Use MicroStation, InRoads, and OpenRoads for pretty much everything – like preparing engineering plans, drawings, models, and cost estimates
  • Research, evaluate and execute appropriate engineering techniques and specification provisions for a wide range of projects with unique needs
  • Conduct site/construction inspections, making notes and taking measurements and photos
  • Perform drainage, erosion control, horizontal and vertical alignments, work zone traffic control, and/or bridge/structural design tasks
  • Compile maps, reports and forms
  • Consistently seek infrastructure improvement opportunities and identify better design options for our clients
