One-Year Contracted Grant Position
The JAG (Jobs for America’s Graduates) Specialist is to provide relevant and challenging work-based learning experiences to out-of-school Covenant House Atlantic City youth, engaging them to develop their personal, leadership, and employability skills and to facilitate GED attainment and post-graduate connections when desired. Collaborate in developing relevant lesson plans with blended learning modalities, training programs, and assessments as part of the DLC team.
The JAG Specialist will assist youth in Job Placement and retention and will provide employer follow-up according to reporting requirements.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Use the Jobs for America’s Graduates National Data Management System (JAG Force) - an internet-based database that will be used to track participants, services delivered, and outcomes achieved.
- Provide a comprehensive program of classroom, work-based, and community-based activities designed to help participants achieve twenty (20) JAG competencies in six (6) clusters: Career Development, Job Survival, Basic Skills, Leadership, and Self-Development and Personal Skills.
- Use a participant-led organization, called the Professional Association, to motivate participants using pride of membership (belonging), involvement, and recognition to encourage participation in chapter activities to reinforce the JAG competencies and to achieve the desired program outcomes.
- Advise and assist chapter leaders on conducting National Career Association activities, including the Induction and Initiation Ceremony, community-service activities; leadership development activities; social development activities; skills development activities; National Competitive Events Program, fundraising, and public relations activities.
- Implement an Employer Marketing and Job Development Plan to ensure all participants are provided with work-based learning experiences.
- Implement a Competency Plan to ensure all participants learn JAG competencies and practice employability skills.
- Submit monthly reports outlining activities, student progress, expenditures, employer partnerships, and related program activities.
- Complete all required forms and documents required by JAG, partnering organizations, and funding resources in a timely fashion and maintain daily data entry into the JAG National Data Management System (JAG Force), which includes program services (instruction, activities, support), new barriers, removal of barriers, contact information pre-and post-test results, etc. Report data in the Covenant House management information system, Efforts to Outcomes (ETO).
- Meet all program requirements as detailed in the Jobs for America’s Graduates and Jobs for America’s Graduates New Jersey Handbooks.
- Participate in staff development workshops as provided by Jobs for America’s Graduates New Jersey/JAG and the partnering organization.
- This will include frequent access to the Jobs for America’s Graduates online learning management system, JAG Genius.
- Participate in JAG's National Training Seminar (NTS), which is held in July of each year. The NTS is an out-of-state conference that lasts 4-5 days annually. Travel is required.
- Adhere to all Child Protection Policies.
- Engage youth through a self-paced blended learning environment: web-based, traditional classroom and small group, peer-led, and individualized reading resources.
- Create learning opportunities that offer choice and challenge and are adaptive.
- Contribute to a dynamic atmosphere where youth can experience a supportive relationship.
- Collaborate with DLC team members, statewide, in lesson review and writing to align with resiliency objectives in all areas, including education, employment, financial literacy, social navigation, and physical, mental, and spiritual wellness.
- Empower youth by providing opportunities to lead through the development and implementation of "peer-to-peer" programs.
- Provide classroom instruction and/or classroom oversight for all DLC youth.
- Implement software systems that provide information and learning opportunities for youth to include but not limited to: Message Board System, STSA, classroom monitoring software.
- Identify resources and educational opportunities and collaborate with service management staff to connect youth to opportunities.
- Assist youth and assist staff in assisting youth, in completing youth college applications, FASFA, and other opportunities.
- Work in coordination with other support staff to ensure that youth continue their attendance and remain engaged in education classes.
Manage aspects of programming to include but not limited to the following:- Prepare youth for the workplace by facilitating groups in the areas of resume writing, employment readiness, preparedness, and job retention.
- Instruct youth in resume writing, job search, and interviewing techniques.
- Cultivate and establish employer relationships to develop employment opportunities for youth.
- Provide ongoing educational and vocational counseling to youth.
- Develop and identify both on and off-site career-oriented seminars and programs to inform youth of career opportunities.
- Co-create a structure for an apprenticeship program, and implement it.
Required to check company e-mail daily.- All other duties assigned by Jobs for America’s Graduates New Jersey management staff.
Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Committed to working with young people who have experienced great hardship, including homelessness.
- Flexible, dynamic, creative problem solver.
- Strong ability to partner with staff and volunteers throughout the Covenant House organization.
- Valid NJ driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
- Must be fully Vaccinated for Covid 19.
