Position Description
The Mobile Data Support position performs technical duties required to provide information technology hardware and software maintenance and support for mobile data computers, communications equipment, and other vehicle components for the Information Technology Division of the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD).

  • This position requires the incumbent to bend, stoop, reach, work with hands and read equipment monitors on a regular basis. May be required to lift equipment up to 50 pounds
Typical Duties

  • Installs, troubleshoots, and provides maintenance to all mobile data computers, mobile printers, and vehicle routers.
  • Provides support, training, troubleshooting, and installation for MDC related software and computer programing.
  • Performs exceptional and timely customer support with the emphasis on minimizing Officers time out-of-service.
  • Acts as liaison between users, IT staff, other Metro agencies, and vendors as appropriate to determine and resolve problems received from clients.
  • Develops and constantly updates accurate technical installation, support, and troubleshooting documentation.
  • Participates in the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of mounting hardware and equipment in departmental vehicles.
  • Performs duties related to operations monitoring of systems and servers when needed.
  • Operates, troubleshoots, maintains, and cleans vehicle garage systems and equipment.
  • Conducts routine maintenance checks of information technology systems, notifies appropriate personnel, and coordinate repair schedule with vendor.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma and two (2) years of job-related experience
OR
Associate's Degree in a related field and one (1) year of job-related experience.

LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid Driver License

Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.

Candidate must receive and maintain a passing status from Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) background check.

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience troubleshooting and supporting laptops, tablets, and printers.
  • Experience with vehicle electronics wiring and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with vehicle garage roles and procedures.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite.
