Iron Worker Helper Job at Wood Plc
Overview / Responsibilities:
Wood is sourcing Ironworker Helpers for our Centertown, KY project. The project is working a 5/10 schedule, approximate duration is 2 months. Per diem will be offered to those who meet the per diem criteria. OSHA 10 is required.
Authorization to work in the US lawfully without sponsorship from Wood is required
Skills / Qualifications:
Key Responsibilities
- Sets up hoisting equipment, raising and placing structural-steel members, with basic rigging knowledge for raising and placing structural steel members
- Fastens steel members to cable of hoist, using chain, cable or rope
- Signals worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel members
- Guides member, using tag line in order to guide it into position
- Pull, push or pry steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device
- Forces members into final position, using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks and hand tools
- Aligns bolt holes in steel member using drift pins or spud wrenches
- Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members using plumb bob and level. Bolts align members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted or welded in place
- Load, transport, unload material, tools, equipment and supplies
- Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment
Qualifications and Requirements:
- One to two years of experience working in the craft of ironworker or pipefitting
- Work at heights without fear
- Use effective verbal and written communication skills
- Be capable of listening and communicating with other supervision and employees
- Be motivated and work safely and productively
- Understand and respond accordingly to all safety alerts, warnings, hazards, etc.
- Recognition and identification of fall hazards in the work area
- Understands procedures for protection from falls to lower levels, floor openings and leading edges
- Understands the correct procedure for installing fall protection equipment
