The Office of International Student Affairs currently needs an International Student Advisor to provide immigration advising and program support in the area of international student services, and to contribute collaboratively with Internationalization & Equity on college-wide strategic internationalization initiatives.
Under the supervision of the Director of International Student Affairs, the International Student Advisor:
- Serves as immigration advisor to approximately 600 international students, providing information to students in a range of basic to intermediate topics including F-1 immigration status, U.S. employment authorization, and international travel; serves as a SEVIS F-1 Program Designated School Official (DSO); is responsible for timely and compliant reporting of international student information to the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and other databases as needed; keeps current with immigration regulations, policies and practices affecting international students.
Collaborates and contributes to the development and implementation of a wide range of programs and support for international students; assists with project management, event coordination, and strategic communication for the Office of International Student Affairs.
Provides leadership support to international students through one or more campus roles including: serving as an advisor to an international student organization, or serving as office liaison for international orientation, international peer mentor group, or other initiatives.
Interacts with other campus offices to promote College-wide internationalization through special projects and events. Participates in building partnerships with campus constituents to enhance international student support.
Required Qualifications:
Requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, and at least 2-3 years of experience with student services or immigration advising.
A successful candidate should have demonstrated understanding of current prevailing issues and key immigration concepts related to international students in U.S. higher education, demonstrated ability to foster relationships with students in cross-cultural settings, and a successful record of developing and implementing programs that enhance student experience.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated skills in team building, case resolution, leadership, program management, and empathetic intercultural communication. Candidates must be innovative thinkers with a vision for providing high-quality services that educate and empower students.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident to meet U.S. Department of Homeland Security requirements for the role of F-1 Designated School Official (DSO).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in an appropriate related field of study, or equivalent experience, and/or at least 5 years of experience in an international office advising F-1 students is preferred.
An ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of State (DOS) regulations pertaining to international students and SEVIS reporting requirements.
Other preferred qualifications include: experience with or knowledge of international student admissions, study abroad, exchange visitor programs, international student taxes, intercultural programing, exchange visitor advising, or immigration regulations related to other immigrant/ nonimmigrant statuses; experience with or the ability to learn student information system software; proficiency in at least one language other than English; experience living, working, or studying abroad.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25
This position will be exclusively represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 888 for purposes of wages, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
