As a mid-level Interior Designer at KDA, you will work as a part of our Design Team, in either our Baltimore, MD or Washington DC office, in the development of architectural projects from concepts through construction administration, with an emphasis on architectural interiors and FF&E. Whether acting as project lead or supporting team member, the ideal candidate will have technical proficiency in producing construction documents using Revit & BIM360, proven experience in finishes and FF&E selection and specification, and the ability to lead interdisciplinary design coordination.
A highly motivated and energetic candidate should demonstrate resourcefulness and be able to work within a fast-paced collaborative team process. A successful candidate will demonstrate attention to detail, forward-thinking, and a willingness to go above and beyond when project demands require.
While the KDA team works predominantly from home/remotely, occasional in-person meetings and site visits are required. For this reason, local and regional applicants willing to travel to the DMV area are required.
Responsibilities
· Plans, coordinates, and manages design & delivery schedules for interiors projects with limited supervision
· Produces and oversees the completion of interior design deliverables including but not limited to:
a. construction documentation using advanced knowledge of Revit/BIM360
b. interior design presentations & reports using advanced knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite
c. FF&E packages & specifications
d. finishes, sanitaryware & lighting schedules and specifications
e. material sample boards
f. 3D renders and walk-throughs using advanced knowledge of Revit, SketchUp, Enscape (or alternate rendering plugins)
g. signage packages
h. architectural and interior detailing, door & door hardware schedules, etc.
i. validation of building code compliance, ADA, LEED, WELL, etc.
· Manages client expectations, team communications, and interdisciplinary consultant coordination for all trades (MEP, AV/IT, security, acoustics, lighting, fire protection, etc.) on multiple projects running concurrently
· Trains and mentors junior level interior and architectural design staff
· Ensures Quality Control procedures are applied and documented (using Bluebeam, Navisworks, BIM360, etc.)
· Serves as the main contributor during client meetings and presentations for interiors scope (in-person or virtually)
· Carries out site visits and surveys as project needs dictate
· Leads and/or participates in client and end-user interviews, as needed
· Collaborates with other lead professionals to ensure design and documentation are in accordance with project expectations
· Assists Project Manager in developing proposals, project financial plans, and schedules
· Maintains and develops relationships with local sales representatives and furniture vendors including material library updates and scheduling CEUs/L&Ls
· Supports business development and marketing efforts when needed
Requirements
· Master’s degree and/or NCIDQ (or working towards NCIDQ) preferred. KDA highly supports and encourages its employees to obtain certification/licensure and will provide financial assistance to qualified team members in order to reach their goals.
· Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Interior Architecture & Design from an accredited university
· 3-7 years of professional design and/or architecture experience
· Advanced knowledge of Revit & BIM360 for all stages of design and construction required
· Advanced knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Enscape (or alternative rendering software), and Microsoft Office Suite required
· Proven experience coordinating interdisciplinary design with consultants including MEP, AV/IT, security, acoustics, lighting, fire protection, etc. required
· Proven experience delivering detailed FF&E packages and specifications required
· Solid working knowledge of building codes, ADA, LEED, WELL, etc.
· Knowledge of architectural detailing
· Ability to prioritize and concurrently service multiple project efforts
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Exhibits exemplary interpersonal skills while interacting with other disciplines, clients, contractors/subcontractors, colleagues, and industry professionals in a manner that builds productive relationships
· Interior/Architectural design team leadership experience preferred
· LEED accreditation preferred
· Working knowledge of local suppliers and finish/furniture manufacturers required
