Position Summary: This position is a hybrid position performing both intake coordination and case management duties for clients enrolling in services within Akeela’s continuum of care.



Competencies:
The Intake Coordinator-Case Manager must be able to demonstrate competency in the following areas:

  • SKILLS:
  • To assist clients with the intake process.
  • Assists with linkage and brokerage of clients’ needs through continuum of care.
  • Basic understanding and ability to interpret ASAM.
  • Understanding and ability to support clients complete a range of paperwork/applications/documents as needed with respect to clients own capabilities.
  • Coordinates with clinical staff both internally and externally for placement of clients in appropriate levels of care.
  • Ability to utilize electronic health record.
  • Ability to enter data into the AKAIMS system in a timely fashion.
  • KNOWLEDGE:
    • To identify, network and establish linkages with collateral services/providers to address the client’s needs comprehensively.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of the complex needs, problems, attitudes, and behavior of target population adults with substance use disorder or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
    • Case management theory, principles, and procedures.
    • Interviewing techniques.
    • Community based services and resources.
    • Records keeping principles and practices.
    • Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications.
    • English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
    • Oral and written communication skills.
    • Knowledge of effective communication techniques with clients, families, coworkers, and community partners.
    • Knowledge of Medicaid regulations pertaining to treatment for individuals in residential treatment services.
    • Knowledge of federal regulations regarding client confidentiality including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
    • Knowledge of de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.
  • BEHAVIOR:
  • To review applicant applications for residential services ensuring all criteria for admission is met.
  • Responsible for all pre/post liaison work with applicants and referrals sources including confirmation of admission and/or linkage to referral partners when criteria for admission are not met.
  • To be available for treatment team meetings with other involved departments or agencies as needed by the client.
  • To maintain confidentiality as required by Akeela policies
  • The Intake Coordinator must exercise tact and judgment and confidentiality in contact with public, clients and families, as well as fellow associates of the Program.
  • The Intake Coordinator is to ensure that services are delivered in the area of responsibility according to the best professional and ethical standards.
  • Meet, interview, and deal effectively with individuals in their own environment
  • Works independently as well as cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Work confidentially with discretion; respect client confidentiality.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Utilize a broad range of interpersonal skills tact, patience and courtesy.

The Intake Coordinator/Case Manager normally works with minimal day to day supervision and may solicit professional assistance in area of responsibility from outside sources as necessary and directed by the primary care staff .

Responsibilities:

  • Review residential applications against admission criteria.
  • Acts as a liaison between applicants and providers pre and post admission.
  • Provide linkage and coordination to community resources
  • Provide all new clients with an orientation to program.
  • Coordinate / Facilitate urinalysis and breathe alcohol testing of clients.
  • Maintain case files on all clients.
  • Performs related duties as required.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Meets at least one of the following requirements for degree/certification:
    • Advanced degree (masters-level or doctoral-level) in psychology, social work, counseling, child guidance, nursing or similar field; or
    • BA/BS in psychology, social work, counseling, child guidance, nursing or similar field and substance abuse treatment training and/or experience; or Associates degree in psychology, social work, human services, counseling or similar; or
    • Certification as a Chemical Dependency Counselor (CDC) I or Behavioral Health Counselor (BHC) I or higher by Alaska Commission for Behavioral Health Certification (ACBHC), or certification by another certifying body, such as a state certifying affiliate of the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) or other similar recognized organization; experience judged as meeting certification requirements may be accepted provided the applicant be certified within six months of hire. For Intake Coordinator, will accept Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) or Counselor Technician (CT) or similar certification. Counselor Technician (CT) certification required within six months of hire.

Prefer three (3) years experience in addictions, social services, mental health or related field.
