Job Description
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Duties include but are not limited to:
Performs skilled work on instrumentation and control systems in all areas of the plant with minimum interference to the normal operation of the plant. Inspects, troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, installs, adjusts, and calibrates station process instrumentation and controls. Assists Instrumentation & Controls Technician Level II in the performance of the above for complex instrumentation, such as the Reactor Manual Control System. Instructs employees in the maintenance, testing, calibration and proper functioning of station process instrumentation and controls. Maintains calibration records and records of test equipment used for the calibration of plant instrumentation and plant testing. Maintains established records as required for good performance and history. Conducts surveillance tests. Takes out permits on instrumentation and control equipment for which authorized. Uses radiation monitoring equipment. Prepares, for approval, Stores and Purchase Orders and work order requests for electrical or mechanical maintenance department assistance when required. Assist in special station tests by setting up necessary instrumentation, taking readings and preparing results including the performance of calculations. Suggests changes in operating procedures when necessary to fully utilize advantages of control loops. Maintains thorough knowledge of appropriate Plans and Procedures, Radiological Health and Safety Programs, Industrial Safety Programs, applicable regulations and limits, Plant Controlled Access Areas and Security Procedures and Emergency Procedures. Complies with station procedures and policy implementing the effective Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Regulatory Guides, National Standards, and subsequent changes, applicable to the work performed. Participates in and successfully completes all aspects of training and requalification programs in part consisting of written and oral examinations, lectures, and on-the-job training. Reads and interprets drawings, prints and control wiring diagrams. Where necessary, makes sketches and diagrams to facilitate work and/or instruct others. Keeps assigned repair shop, tools and equipment in good working order; maintains good housekeeping and safety in working area; and performs decontamination of personnel, equipment or facilities as necessary or assigned. Assists in development of I&C procedures and work instructions. Performs such other related duties as assigned or as necessary.
MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent and at least one of the following: Three-years work experience with instruments, controls or electronics as found in a power plant facility. Should include at least six months of related technical training. Relevant military experience, such as Navy or Air Force instrumentation technician experience will satisfy this requirement. Associate Degree in electronics, electricity or nuclear technology.
Successful completion of the EEI Tech exam.
  • If you successfully pass the EEI Tech exam, you must successfully complete the I&C Level 1 technician exam
Successful completion of the I&C Technician selection examination is required. Satisfactory physical and mental condition as evidenced by successfully passing company-provided examinations. Ability to read and understand technical instructions and associated diagrams. Ability and aptitude to perform work requiring a high degree of mental and visual attention, manual dexterity, and coordination. Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License.
JOB PERFORMANCE: Performance is satisfactory when:
Quality and quantity of work meet normal standards. Demonstrated traits to provide direction to other instrument personnel during abnormal or emergency conditions to place the plant in a safe mode of operation. Demonstrated initiative, dependability, proficiency, alertness, and conscientiousness commensurate of the responsibility of the position. Sufficient manual skill and dexterity to obtain adequate and precise calibration and adjustments of instrumentation and components by means of small tools and various test instruments. Demonstrated cooperative attitude toward associates. Demonstrated thorough understanding and strict adherence to I&C Section, Health Physics, Quality Assurance regulations and procedures, plant emergency and security procedures and knowledge of company safety rules applicable to work performed. Participate in, and successfully complete, company-provided job-related training and company-provided physical and mental examinations. Exhibit competence through successfully completing I&C Technician Level I qualification and requalification examinations.
