- POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general maintenance supervision, the Maintenance Technician performs skilled mechanical work in support of the overall facility operation and in maintaining operation of the process plant and power generation plant in compliance with established production schedules and plant output requirements.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs a wide variety of mechanical repairs of facility machinery including, equipment preventative maintenance, and identifying potential mechanical issues.
- Performs pipefitting runs with all types of tubing and pipes.
- Performs rigging techniques to lift and move a variety of equipment, parts, structural components and shapes.
- Performs repairs on all types of conveyors and conveyor components.
- Performs repairs to high pressure valves and steam systems.
- Is self-motivated and plans details of work that has been assigned with little supervision.
- Interprets sketches, blueprints and drawings.
- Occasionally is exposed to outside heights as high as 225 feet above ground level and frequently works off scaffolding and ladders.
- Frequently is exposed to extreme heat and adverse weather conditions.
- Determines the tools, parts, supplies, and equipment necessary to perform the assigned job.
- Performs facility machinery and equipment inspections, adjusts or replaces worn components as required, lubricates all facility machinery routinely and makes necessary adjustments to ensure that equipment is operating efficiently.
- Utilizes equipment manuals or system database for referencing and troubleshooting.
- Consults with operations and works cooperatively with facility operators, ensuring that facility machinery is being repaired as requested.
- Safely operates all machine shop equipment and hand tools.
- Directs trainees, helpers, and other support personnel assisting in the maintenance activities.
- Completes work order corrective actions, log books as required in a clear and legible manner, and ensures accuracy of time reporting on all repair activities.
- Is constantly alert to unsafe working conditions and is certain that all safety precautions are being used and that work is conducted in a safe manner.
- Maintains a clean, neat and orderly work area, and wears all personal protective equipment at all times.
- Attends and participates in scheduled training and safety programs. Knows, understands and complies with all company safety regulations and procedures.
- Attends pre-job safety briefs/tool box talks, utilizes and follows Job Safety Analysis for repairs when available.
- Follows facility lock-out/tag-out procedures and program.
- QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Understands hydraulic pressures and ratings for pumps, hoses, fittings, etc. and ability to learn to troubleshoot, repair/replace hydraulic components.
- Has experience with or ability to learn about various types of conveying systems and operation, troubleshooting and diagnosing conveyor troubles, repairing conveyor belt splices, and replacing complete conveyor belts.
- Has knowledge of or ability to learn various types of rigging techniques, methods, weights and load limits for rigging sizing and type.
- Has knowledge of or ability to learn about high pressure valve components and replacement procedures.
- Has knowledge of or ability to learn various pipe fitting and runs utilizing the pipe threading machine and PVC cementing.
- Has knowledge of how to or ability to learn to cut and prep boiler tubing utilizing the portable milling machine.
- Can safely operate all hand tools and machine shop drill press, band saw, and grinders.
- Has knowledge of how to or ability to learn to execute coupling alignment utilizing dial indicators or lazar alignment method.
- Can perform math using fractions and decimals.
- Uses personal protective equipment and follows safety procedures in performing job functions.
- Has understanding of or ability to learn about SAF/spherical bearing and adaptor mounting procedures.
- Is able to utilize equipment manuals and schematics for parts and repair.
- Can thoroughly complete machinery inspections and identify worn or damaged components.
- Can perform given repair instructions and follow procedures with little supervision.
- Can perform advanced measurements with tapes, rulers and close tolerance measuring devices.
- Can analyze equipment and determine appropriate repairs strategize with little supervision.
- Can identify faulty bearings, gearbox drives, and replace as needed.
- Prior knowledge or ability to learn fabricating skills utilizing oxygen/acetylene torch and plasma.
- Willingness to become a structurally certified welder or greater.
- Has the ability to set up and plan repairs and component replacement with little supervision.
- Is able to compose a parts list, search and retrieve the necessary parts and components to complete equipment repairs with little supervision.
- Has knowledge of or willingness to learn how to use a computerized maintenance management program for retrieving parts and work orders.
- Demonstrates initiative and is self-motivated, needs little supervision to carry out given tasks.
Physical Demands:
- Frequently exposed to high temperatures and outside weather conditions.
- Working near moving machinery as well as noisy and dusty environments; must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) to include a negative pressure respirator in accordance with OSHA Regulation 29 CFR 1910.134.
- Climbing ladders and structures; must be able to tolerate heights.
- Frequently required to stand, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Pulling up to 100 pounds.
- Specific vision ability required by this job included close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must have a minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.
- Has a minimum of two years industrial mechanical/operational experience
- Specialty skills such as plumbing, welding, machinist, millwright, etc. are a plus
