JOB TITLE – Industrial Hygienist
Hygieneering, Inc. an established Chicago based environmental, health and safety (EHS) consulting firm seeks an Industrial Hygienists for a project in the Southwest Suburbs.
JOB SUMMARY:
This person will conduct industrial hygiene surveys for chemical, biological and/or physical hazards of employees to assure compliance with state and federal regulations as well as Company standards. Assist in reviewing and updating site procedures to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations. Individual will work with various refinery departments to address specific health and safety issues and develop the proper engineering, administrative or PPE controls. Will also oversee the execution of facility ergonomics program.
JOB DUTIES:
Develop and conduct yearly employee exposure assessment. This task will include:
- Documenting yearly monitoring plan
- Obtaining required lab media/equipment to conduct assessment
- Performing assessment by interacting with refinery personnel
- Prepare samples for lab analysis and complete required paperwork (air sample data form, lab chain of custody, etc.)
- Issuing Employee Notifications
- Generating and distribution of monitoring event reports
- Document results in MedGate database
Coordinate the calibration and repair of air monitoring instruments required for work permitting. Task includes maintenance of all Health and Safety monitoring equipment as well as auditing for proper maintenance of Operations multi-gas instruments.
- Works with safety to ensure compliance with existing procedures and programs
- Works with operations in providing continual improvement for facility H2S Programs
- Works to maintain and provide appropriate Preventative Maintenance & Repair of wireless fence line and emergency response equipment; such as Area RAE & Radius BZ1.
Maintain facility SDS system.
- Training of new hires and refresher training of current employees on location and how to access site SDS Database in PRiSM.
- Review and approve/disapprove materials for use on-site
- Recommend safeguards for materials approved for use on-site
- Update electronic and hard copy master set(s) as needed with additions/deletions of SDS'.
- Work with Operations and Maintenance to remove SDS' for materials no longer used on-site
- Compile annual Tier II report for regulatory submittal.
Provide training and support (classroom and CBT review) for programs that are overseen by IH. This includes but is not limited to:

General IH Support
- Conduct noise mapping
- Perform ergonomic assessments and support
- Support to field concerns and incidents
- Member of Field Investigation Team as needed
- Member of Personnel Safety Team
Maintain and assure proper population of the IH related Sharepoint site.
Support refinery Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) by qualifying as backup RSO conducting field audits, conducting surveys as needed and maintaining regulatory paperwork
TRAINING OR UNIQUE SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Safety or equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
- Work from elevated heights.
- Able to perform confined space entry.
- Able to wear additional PPE (Respiratory protection, fall protection, protective outerwear, etc.)
- Knowledge of field sampling instruments and techniques.
- Knowledge of occupational standards and sampling equipment.
- Ability to interpret, summarize and report sampling data.
- Strong technical writing and oral communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft office products.
- Strong aptitude for computer and various software applications.
- Ability to work extended hours including emergency call outs.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $52,000.00 - $58,000.00 per year
