Summary:
An Imaging Technologist II demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to produce diagnostic Xray and CT images of designated anatomic areas as prescribed by established imaging protocols, while providing the appropriate care to the age of the patient served by the department of radiology.
Responsibilities:
Essential Responsibilities
Coordinates timely throughput for Xray and CT patients, by prioritizing exams based on priority levels. Escalates hurdles to timely completion to Lead Technologist or Manager.
Properly identifies patient using two patient identifiers, checks the imaging order for complete information, proper exam and/or procedure and schedules/prioritizes as needed, and assess risk of pregnancy prior to commencing with exam or procedure.
Explains the exam and/or procedure to the patient with professionalism and compassion.
Performs IV cannulation, as prescribed by Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP), using aseptic technique as per NYS DOH Scope of Practice. Performs iStat testing in accordance with the established policies.
Positions patient ensuring patient comfort and modesty. Selects proper imaging protocol reflective of imaging order, maintains a high degree of accuracy in positioning and adjusts exposure techniques to obtain optimal Xray and CT images.
Operates power injector in preparation for and administration of contrast media under the direct supervision of the supervising physician in accordance with department policy and regulatory standards.
Demonstrates knowledge of and practices radiation safety.
Is proficient in the operation of post processing workstations. Performs critique of exam for completeness and correct labeling. Is responsible for accurate and timely exam verification within the hospital’s RIS system and archival of completed studies to the PACS system.
Follows infection control and safety guidelines, cleans and disinfects imaging equipment and exam rooms. Properly stocks assigned room prior to the start and end of shift.
Protocols exams for the next day to ensure that the examinations were scheduled properly, flags any contraindications and requests revised orders as necessary.
Coordinates all aspects of care for the Xray and CT patient to include, but not limited to: coordination, and participation as necessary, communicates pertinent patient information with referring provider and interpreting radiologist, exercises ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing their duties, maintains strict patient confidentiality, monitors patient’s comfort while in the Xray or CT department.
Notifies Lead Technologist or Manager when equipment malfunctions and places appropriate BioMed ticket.
Maintains and Models Nuvance Health Values.
Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance and consistently documents such in the hospital’s scheduling / payroll system.
Performs other duties as required.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Education: Minimum Graduate of a School of Radiologic Technology Preferred Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience Work Experience
Minimum License, Registration and Certification Requirements: Preferred One (1) - Two (2) years of clinical experience in X-ray and CT
License, Registration, or Certification Requirements: · Valid New York State (NYS) Radiological License with Injection - Injection portion to be obtained within 6 months of hire
