Patient Services Associate

POSITION SUMMARY

As directed by the team leader and accountable to the Support Services Manager, the PSA is a primary member of the support team. Works collaboratively with the direct care team to provide housekeeping, supply management, laundry services, equipment management and unit specific special projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Removes all regular and medical waste per departmental guidelines.
• Cleans and disinfects all bathrooms and fixtures according to departmental guidelines.
• Cleans and disinfects all patient rooms on a daily basis per departmental guidelines.
• Performs resident personal laundry according to departmental guidelines.
• Cleans and disinfects all common areas, entrances and offices per departmental guidelines.
• Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

Note: Failure to adhere to McLaren Northern Michigan core values AT ALL TIMES AT WORK or to complete less than 100% of training and in-service requirements will result in no pay increase for the year.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITLIES

• Ability to maintain positive interaction with all types of patients, significant others and coworkers in order to effectively care for the patients.
• Ability to prioritize, organizes, memorize routine assignments and take direction without frequent supervision. Analytical ability to determine shortages.
• Ability to read and write, hand/eye coordination, calculate figures, answer telephone, record messages and fine motor skills for legible handwriting, manipulation of special equipment.
• Competent within 6 months of hire with all age groups within defined patient population. Demonstrates sensitivity when interacting with diverse ethnic groups.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Light Work: Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree, or when it involves sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
