The McAuleyis West Hartford’s only Life Plan Community, promoting and fostering an independent lifestyle within a life care setting. Performs a variety of duties in order to provide a clean and safety environment to all residents, v isitors, and staff following all policies, procedures , and guidelines.
Job Qualifications:
Ability to speak and understand the English language in order to make self understood in fact to fact interactions with residents and staff. Must be able to understand written and verbal instructions.
Three months experience in institutional housekeeping operations, preferred . Good knowledge of water temperatures ; laundry detergents and chemicals; linens and fabrics.
Equipment- Vacuum, Housekeeping Cart, Linen Cart, Mop, Bucket Broom
Must be able to safely perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Environmental and Working Conditions:
Ability to push/pull housekeeping cart weighing between 15-20 lbs. Ability to push/pull linen cart weighing up to 50 lbs.
Ability to lift arms / reach to dust walls/high areas with high duster. Ability to push/pull vacuum cleaner weighing up to 10 lbs .
Ability to push/pull light furniture weighing up to 20 lbs in order to vacuum .
Ability to lift full garbage pail (approx. 15 lbs ) off cart to throw contents in dumpster.
Ability to lift clean/dirty linen weighing up to 25-30 lbs while holding it at arms
length away from the body.
Ability to bend , squat, stoop to floor level for 8 hours a day.
Ability to wear latex gloves while performing duties.
Exposure to infectious wastes, toxic chemicals and body fluids.
Job Responsibilities
Demonstrates, promotes and integrates the mission of The McAuley and the core values of Mercy Community Health in daily work activities.
Clean and sanitize bathrooms to include: shower, toilet and toilet basin, sink, sink top, medicine cabinet, walls, cupboards, mirrors, floor and all faucets, drains and lights.
Dust all hard surfaces without the removal of resident personal belongings.
Clean and sanitize kitchen to include: sink and sink drain, counter tops and stove. Clean top of refrigerator, sweep and wash floor.
Clean and maintain front entrance door to include: frame and frame top, inside and outside of door, vacuum front entrance, edge carpeting each time apartment is cleaned .
Clean and maintain front patio to include: sweep and remove cobwebs, clean patio light and globe.
Vacuum apartment including under all furniture.
Deliver and remove both clean and soiled linen as required.
Clean and sanitize cart storage area, all janitor closets and housekeeping carts as required.
Perform proper removal of daily trash remaining from end of day.
Assists in any other department needs as required or directed by the Environmental Services Director or Supervisor of Housekeeping and Laundry Services.
Follows all safety, security, infection control (including Category I Universal Precautions) and hazardous materials policies and procedures; performs all tasks to
assure resident and personal safety and the protection of co-workers and (facility) property.
Customer satisfaction and a focus on quality improvement are evident in all aspects of work. Promotes and supports the philosophy, goals and objectives of the department. Dedicated to providing services, which anticipate and exceed resident and family needs.
Maintains high standards of business and ethical conduct in accordance with applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations including fraud, waste and abuse. Avoids activities, which could result in a conflict of interest.

Attend at least two (2) General Staff Meetings, four (4) Department Staff Meetings and six (6) Educational Programs .
Arrives in a punctual manner for all shifts. Provides notification for unscheduled absences and tardiness. Requests scheduled time off in compliance with policy. Does not exceed company attendance policy.
