Women's sorority at the University of Idaho is seeking to fill the position of House Director (formerly called Housemother) for the 2022-23 academic year. Position is September through May, with the potential to stay on the following school year.
Benefits summary:
- Lodging: Furnished 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom suite attached to House Director office space
- Meals provided when school is in session (Sunday Dinner through Friday Lunch)

- 5 paid personal/sick days provided. Additional time off includes extended holiday breaks (7 days at Thanksgiving, ~21 days at Christmas/Winter, and 7 days at Spring break).

- Participation in Campus House Directors group - social and professional opportunities
House Director is responsible for:
- Facility management – managing implantation of repairs and regular maintenance by contacting service providers and technicians
- Working with the house staff including: part time housekeeper(s) and coordinating with kitchen staff for operations and household supply ordering
- Maintaining strong interpersonal skills and confidentiality
- Ensuring house safety by conducting house common area monitoring daily/nightly (11:00pm weekdays/1:00am weekends)
- Fostering a positive living environment particularly with college-age women while communicating boundaries of facility, regular communications with chapter president (student leader).
- Effectively communicating with various student positions such as the House Manager (student leader) for student lead implementation of house cleaning, special event logistics, and implementation of house check-in, check-out, and room transitions
- Monitoring a budget and communicating regularly with House Corporation (HC)
- Serving as hostess at some sorority events and educating women on etiquette
- Maintaining a clean and professional office space and demeanor in all interactions
- Occasional house operations including: light cleaning of mail room, changing light bulbs, laundering household items like kitchen linens, aprons etc.
- Participation in Greek House Directors group – regular communication to ensure effective policies and partnerships between houses and Greek Office
Successful candidate will be self-motivated and not require daily direct supervision. Excellent opportunity for graduate students, retired teacher or person who loves to work with young adults. This position will be contract with potential for extension.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills
- Ability to perform basic to intermediate functions of Microsoft Word and Excel, Google services such as drive, gmail, hangouts and docs; and internet video conferencing services such as Zoom.
- Ability to scan and email documents to HC on a regular basis and communicate with HC primarily through email
- Ability to work independently and maintain confidential information
- Professional and diplomatic interactions with students, parents, alumnae, service providers and community resources with a positive solution-focused attitude
- Strong interpersonal skills, particularly with college-age women, including patience, flexibility, and a sense of humor
- Ability to climb up and down several (4) flights of stairs regularly and lift 25 pounds if necessary.
- Current driver’s license and ability to drive for short errands related to job
- High school diploma or equivalent
