Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Lead Histotechnologist at our facility you will be an integral part of our Laboratory team. We are a highly functioning team that supports many different departments and has a passion for providing the best patient care through compassionate, professional interactions and reliable testing. In this role:

• You will prepare tissues for microscopic examination by pathologists.
• You will prepare specimens by freezing and cutting tissue samples, mounting specimens on slides and staining or treating tissue with chemicals to reveal specific structural details under microscopic analysis.
• You will ensure the Histology department works with pathologists to ensure delivery of high-quality results.
• You will train Histology staff on procedures and ensure efficient processes are in place.
• You will create and main staffing schedules in accordance with hospital staffing targets and department requirements.
• You will perform annual reviews for Histology staff and provide feedback to staff on issues and problems.
• You will assure that the highest degree of quality patient care is maintained at all times.

Qualifications:

• Registered as a Histology Technician (HLT/HT or equivalent) with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
• Associate or Bachelor degree preferred; course work equivalent to allow for HT/HLT certification required.
• Minimum 2 years of histology experience required; experience may be obtained through completion of 1 year of an accredited training program in histology techniques and procedures.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, histochemistry, histology, and basic mathematics and skill at microtomy and embedding tissue required.
• Must have good verbal and written skills and good computer knowledge and keyboarding skills.
• Must possess the ability to supervise a team of Histologists and serve as a conduit for our pathologists to ensure high quality delivery of results.
