Highway Maintenance Worker II - Heavy Equipment Operator (61035682) Job at State of South Carolina
This position is located in the Holly Hill Maintenance unit. Operates combination front-end loader and backhoe to clean out drainage ditches and to install sideline and cross line pipe. Operates large motor graders in ditching, shoulder operations, grading and machining roads, driveway installation or snow and ice removal. Operates tandem dump truck in hauling maintenance and construction materials such as concrete pipes, asphalt, dirt, coquina, etc. Assists with snow/ice removal and other inclement weather events such as hurricanes, tornadoes, etc. Performs other related duties as requested by Resident Maintenance Engineer. Coordinates the placement of traffic control devices to properly set up a maintenance work zone according to the SCDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Manual and Field Guide to warn motorists. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment as outlined in equipment specifications. Operates truck mounted plows and sand spreaders in snow and ice removal as necessary.
One (1) year of related work experience; or relevant experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
