The High School English Achievement Manager plays a critical role within the KIPP New Orleans Schools Academics Team, collaborating with school leaders, instructional coaches, and teachers to ensure student achievement through high-quality, vision-aligned instruction. We achieve this purpose by providing world-class curricula, developing excellent educators, supporting great coaching, and relentlessly monitoring progress and data.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Content Leadership | 10%
- Set and maintain a vision for excellent English instruction throughout the region.
- Set annual and quarterly goals and priorities in response to student and teacher data.
- Serve as the English local and national assessment (LEAP 2025, ACT, AP) expert for the region.
- Serve as the English local and national pedagogical content expert for the region.
- Curriculum Development | 20%
- Analyze curriculum materials annually for alignment, rigor, and engagement in response to evolving requirements, student learning needs, and teacher/leader feedback.
- Identify curriculum changes and plan to address them.
- Design Interim Assessments, answer keys, and exemplar student responses aligned to the end-of-year assessment.
- Update core content documents (Curriculum Blueprint; Lesson and Unit Plan Templates; Study Guide and Vocabulary List)
- Manage Curriculum Fellows (teachers who write curriculum) to ensure they build and deliver aligned, high-quality materials on time.
- Manage all files and folders on the High School Curriculum Drive and Better Together High School Curriculum page.
- Professional Development | 20%
- Become proficient at the Living the Learning PD format (See It, Name It, Do It).
- Lead high-quality, differentiated, engaging professional development during regional Regional PD days.
- Serve as a lab site teacher by planning, executing, and videoing key lessons and instructional techniques.
- Plan, launch, and maintain Professional Learning Communities.
- Lead shared grading and data-analysis following each Interim Assessment cycle.
- Lead as-needed professional development sessions for schools and departments to improve curriculum implementation and instruction.
- Progress Monitoring, Data Analysis, and Action Planning | 45%
- Manage a regional community for your content area by building deep relationships with school leaders, instructional coaches, and teachers.
- Support school-based implementation of the curriculum.
- Conduct walkthroughs with school-based Instructional coaches, or independently, of content classes. Collect student data, identify strengths, areas for growth, and key gaps to close.
- Summarize findings, provide suggested responses, and develop reteach plans with instructional coaches during weekly check-ins.
- Send monthly newsletters to support regional, school-based, and departmental priorities for the week, share/clarify resources, and key dates.
- Support Annual Projects | 5%
- Assist with project planning and lead 1-2 annual special projects to support priority areas in response to data.
The following are required for the role:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Successful completion of State and Federal Criminal Background Check
- Personal affinity to our mission and vision, as well as demonstrated commitment to our 5 core beliefs - Relentlessness, Equity, Achievement, Community, and Hope
- Provide documentation of either 1) received a COVID-19 vaccination or 2) have requested, and been granted, reasonable accommodation from the KNOS Director of Human Resources to be exempted from the requirements of this policy
The following are strongly preferred for the role:
- State teaching credential
- At least 5 years of teaching experience (strongly preferred)
- A proven track record of success in the classroom and/or in coaching with demonstrable student achievement results on high-stakes exams (at least 2+ years)
- Deep knowledge of the Common Core State Standards and English instruction - literacy and writing pedagogy
- Deep knowledge of national high school examinations (ACT and Advanced Placement)
- An incredible work ethic and a passion for being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture
- A strong desire to continuously learn and increase effectiveness as a teacher and professional

- Must be able to sit and work at a desk/computer for extended periods of time
- Must be able to spend the majority of the day standing or mobile throughout the classroom, as well as talk, hear, grasp, reach and lift up to 30lbs with or without accommodations
- Ability to concentrate in active and noisy environments such as cafeterias and playgrounds, to more moderate situations such as classrooms or large group professional settings
- Must be able to have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on computer and/or related office equipment
- Ability to handle potential high stress conditions
