Summary:
The HVAC Technician installs and repairs various air quality systems. Main duties include installing equipment and ductwork, locating and diagnosing maintenance problems on equipment, conducting warranty services and quickly performing emergency repairs on certain equipment items.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Maintain existing HVAC systems or install new units
- Diagnose, repair and maintain heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment
- Regularly cleans, adjust and repairs HVAC systems along with warranty maintenance
- Responsible for logging HVAC maintenance in their business records
- Works to locate any dangerous features on an HVAC system that could be harmful to the user’s health
- Remove old HVAC equipment so new systems can be installed
- Runs pipe and duct systems
- Reads and interprets wiring diagrams
- Knows how to interpret various technical data, such as pressure and temperature
- Responsible for keeping this equipment clean, fixed and maintained
Qualifications
- Experience with the design, installation, maintenance or repair of HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems
- HVAC technicians in Colorado are not required to obtain an HVAC licensure but they are required to obtain both an electrician and plumbing licenses through the Colorado State Electrical Board and Colorado State Plumbing Board
- 3-4 years experience working as an HVAC Technician
- Clean and safe driving record
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of or experience working with mechanical systems, tools or machines
- Experience performing various types of HVAC maintenance
- Experience with the design, installation, maintenance and repair of HVAC/R (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems).
- Skill or experience reading and interpreting diagrams such as technical drawings or blueprints
- Good communication skills to explain what repairs need to be made and why
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams
- Understanding of the refrigeration cycles
- Knowledge of how to interpret various technical data, such as pressure and temperature
- Highly motivated, self starter who is flexible and has a great attitude
- Highly organized with excellent follow through abilities
- A driving work ethic with the willingness to learn and grow
Work Context
- Regularly works in outdoor conditions that include inclement weather as well as heat and humidity, exposure to dust, asphalt, and hazardous materials. Could also work in an environment near moving mechanical parts
- Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint or throw an object
- Requires good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination
- Noise level is generally loud
- Must be able to quickly move arms and legs
- Excellent stamina is required
- Must have the ability to work in full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including respiratory protection including SCBA, APR, SAR
- Must understand and follow SOPs for specific tasks
Physical Demands
Individuals must have the ability to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the workday and have the capability to move within the field. Any person in this position needs the ability to operate any field equipment used within the Construction Industry. There is a requirement to traverse multiple terrain types in outdoor weather conditions along with the ability to position self in a stoop, kneel, or crouch position. Individuals must be able to wear full construction PPE and have the ability to enter confined spaces.
