Growing transportation and logistics company hiring HR Generalist Job at GTS TRANSPORTATION
GTS Transportation is a rapidly growing transportation and logistics company located in Burr Ridge, IL, with additional offices located in St. Louis MO and Philadelphia, PA. GTS operates throughout the continental United States and currently has 500 employees and independent contractors.
The human resources generalist is responsible for performing Human Resources (HR) related duties on a professional level and works closely with senior HR management in supporting the HR function. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits administration, recruitment, associate relations, training and development, performance management, onboarding/offboarding, policy implementation, and regulatory compliance.
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the company, particularly relating to coaching and educating managers and associates about company policies, compliance, performance management, and best practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Engages with associates in a way that demonstrates a customer service orientation
- Consistently demonstrates a willingness to listen, a commitment to follow up with coworkers as necessary
- Manages associate relations, complaints, and concerns
- Performs the full recruitment cycle including job postings, resumes, phone screening, interviews and employment letters
- Assist with the administration of human resource policies and procedures
- Maintains compliance with state and federal laws related to recruiting, hiring, termination, benefits administration, required notices/postings, I-9 and E-Verify process, annual reporting requirements (EEO-1, 5500 filing, etc.)
- Conducts objective investigations and issues findings to Senior HR Manager
- Schedules performance review meetings and manages performance review processes
- Coordinate approval of new employee procedures, Employee Handbook updates and execution, and distribution of changes
- Conduct employee satisfaction survey at least once a year
- Participates in Compensation market surveys
- Administer benefit plans to new associates, enroll, process applications, manage inquiries, track activities, maintain records, and conduct follow-up
- Responsible for open enrollment process including associate communication plan, reporting, open enrollment meetings, and associate updates
- Coordinates and manages process for official regulatory filings such as 5500’s, Medicare’s Retiree Drug Subsidy Program, EEO-1 report, etc.
- Coordinate contacts with associates and benefits vendors; answer associates’ questions about benefits programs such as medical, PTO and 401K. Maintain data in vendor databases ensuring timely and accurate coverage
- Responsible for the administrative process related to morale boosting programs such as safety bonus program, referral bonus program, health, etc. Also responsible for creating cost-effective special events that increase associate satisfaction and productivity
- Assist in planning all events including employee service awards, holiday party, driver appreciation events, safety meetings, etc.
- Delivers PowerPoint presentations/trainings on various compliance and development topics such as new-hire orientation, open enrollment, harassment prevention, supervisor development, etc.
- Maintains confidential HR Data, DQFiles, training database, etc. Responsible for the integrity of the data
- Compile data and prepare periodic reports and other HR KPI’s
- Perform other duties as may be assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2-4 years’ broad generalist HR experience.
- Extensive knowledge of general human resources policies and procedures
- Extensive knowledge of state and federal employment law
- Strong benefits administration background preferred
- Strong empathy and interpersonal skills
- Proven leadership and coaching skills
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
- Ability to maintain the highly confidential nature of human resources work
- Use of care and judgment to ensure fairness and equity
