The Senior Grants and Contracts Specialist will assist with all of the sponsored research activities for the College of Social Work. This involves managing pre and post award activities and serving research from the proposal stage to award closeout. Additional responsibilities such as financial forecasting and effort planning are essential as well. The College of Social Work had over $7 million dollars in research expenditures in fiscal year 2022. This position will be responsible for helping to oversee this growth and help extend beyond it the future. The positions duties are broken down into the following 4 areas:

  • Pre-Award The Senior Grants and Contracts Specialist will assist with proposals submitted by the College of Social Work. They will help draft budgets, review all necessary documents and get them submitted to the Office of Sponsored Programs in advance of the sponsors' deadlines. They will also complete the PA-005 document and help track its progress as it garners approvals.

  • Post-Award This position assists with monitoring the department's sponsored projects from set-up to close-out. The Specialist will monitor the fiscal health of all active projects and provide budget forecasts to the PIs and the department manager as necessary. They will assist the PI and OSP in submitting annual and final reports to sponsors when necessary. They will continually monitor the status of all awards and alert the personnel necessary whenever an issue is discovered. They will also manage the effort planning and monitor the effort certification processes for the department. Experience with Workday and Tableau are strongly preferred.

  • Compliance The Specialist will collaborate with Department, College and Office of Research staff to make sure that all grant activities are compliant under relevant policies, procedures and best practices. They will obtain necessary prior approvals for all purchases on sponsored projects. They will also review and monitor OSP monthly reports and fiscal and human resources records to be sure that all employees are appointed appropriately and accurately.

  • Other Administrative Duties This position will serve as one of the primary liaisons between the faculty, staff, college and OSP. They will represent and college on external grant and committee meetings as necessary. They will serve as back-up to the other grants specialists in the CSW, grant support staff as needed and perform related administrative duties at the request of the College.

Required Qualifications
Bachelors Degree or an equivalent combination of education and 2 years of relevant experience required; considerable proposal and post-award grants and contracts management experience required.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge of University, Office of Research and Office of Sponsored Programs policies, rules, and regulations is strongly desired; online financial and human resources experience/training is desired; proficiency with computer software programs including Microsoft Word and Excel is desired. Certified Research Administrator credentials a plus. Experience with Workday and Tableau are strongly preferred.
