Departmental Overview

Berkeley Public Health (BPH) aims to improve population health, especially for the most vulnerable, through interdisciplinary collaborations, preeminent education, and transformational research. Established in 1943, BPH is a professional school on the UC Berkeley campus that comprises six academic divisions and nearly 30 research centers and programs. The Division of Health Policy and Management (HPM) is one of six academic divisions of the School of Public Health and houses several programs - Health Policy PhD, HPM MPH, Concurrent Graduate Degree Programs (MPH with MBA, MPP), Online HPM Concentration, and Graduate Certificate in Health Management.

Responsibilities
Works with both residential and online students (prospective and enrolled) to advise them on basic questions concerning their academic career while applying professional Student Services and Academic Advising concepts and providing a variety of services to these students as well as faculty, staff, and the leadership within SPH. At SPH, provides a range of academic advising and student services for the programs within the Division of Health Policy and Management: Health Policy Ph.D., HPM MPH, Concurrent Graduate Degree Programs (MPH with MBA, MPP), Online HPM Concentration, and Graduate Certificate in Health Management. Provides basic advice and assistance to prospective students on academic and degree progress and program requirements; assists students in determining a concentration, and alternative academic options, resolving scheduling conflicts, and similar issues. Coordinates with the Graduate Division and Office of the Registrar as needed. Recruitment and Admissions: Assists Lead Graduate Student Affairs Officer in Implementing outreach programs and initiatives with specifically targeted institutions; advises prospective applicants on necessary academic preparation; appropriateness of program as it pertains to the prospective applicant's goals; reviews degree eligibility; assists HPM division in arranging student recruitment visits to Berkeley. Creates, updates, and manages communication and program materials using various platforms such as Slate, bCourses, and Google Docs Editor suite, and coordinates with the SPH Communication team to keep the HPM website updated. Financial Aid: Participates in the processing, evaluation, and awarding of student fellowships, grants, and other awards; assists with training grant reports and reimbursements; advises students on financial aid options. Student Conduct: Provides information to students and faculty regarding campus policies and procedures on student conduct. Course Scheduling and Enrollment Management: Reviews course requirements and student course progression, and advises Division Manager and SPH Curriculum Planner on scheduling needs; Provides enrollment management for both residential and oomph classes. Audits student enrollments each semester; processes enrollment change requests, and assists with student enrollment with partner programs and schools. Student Events: Assists with the planning and coordination of new student orientation, onboarding, advising, and commencement events for both residential and online students; summer on-campus visits for online students; and Division and program-wide events. Other duties as assigned. Participates in workshops, training, and other professional development opportunities.

Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques and models. Knowledge of and/or ability to learn University-specific computer application programs and pertinent databases. Knowledge of and/or ability to learn University processes and procedures. Understanding of and/or ability to learn University rules and regulations. Experience working in and/or ability to learn about the UC System. Experience working in student advising roles.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $27.75 - $32.50 (equivalent to $57,942.00 - $67,860.00 annualy). The full annual pay scale range for this position classification is $51,900 -$87,900 (grade 18).
This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits. This position is non-exempt and paid bi-weekly. This is a remote-friendly position, eligible for 40% remote capability once the employee is fully trained.
