Job Summary
The Government Relations Specialist will work with the Government relations team to influence health policy changes to improve the health and health care coverage of children. The primary emphasis of the work will be child and adolescent behavioral health. The Specialist will report to the Director of Behavioral Health Policy & Advocacy, but will support the entire team.

The Government Relations Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Working collaboratively with Government Relations team to identify policy issues, develop positions in designated issues areas, and educate hospital staff in areas of responsibility.
  • Producing and disseminating advocacy materials to policy makers, internal audiences and partner organizations as necessary to support and advance policy agenda.
  • Overseeing the coordination and logistical planning for signature hospital events in Boston and Washington, DC, coordinating tours of the hospital for elected officials.
  • Working across organizations, agencies and disciplines to coordinate and support the work of coalition leadership for all activities related to School-Based Behavioral Health advocacy.
  • Providing administrative and organizational support to facilitate the collaboration across a broad range of stakeholders, including the Children’s Mental Health Campaign.
  • Providing support to the Hospital’s grassroots advocacy program (the Children’s Advocacy Network), including outreach to increase enrollment in the CAN, development of updates and action alerts, and evaluation and monitoring and CAN performance.
  • Representing the hospital at meetings and fostering collaboration with partner organizations and internal departments.
  • Coordinating policy intern selection process and providing supervision and mentoring to interns.
  • Providing administrative support to the Government Relations team.

To qualify, you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 3-5 years of experience in a government or advocacy organization setting.
  • Strong analytic and writing skills, including the ability to write clear and effective briefing papers, fact sheets and memoranda for a range of audiences including legislators.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a team and across multiple disciplines within the hospital.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to prioritize and complete various projects simultaneously.
  • Positive and supportive attitude.
