Geotechnical Engineer (Entry level) Job at DiGioia Gray
DiGioia Gray is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer for our Geosciences and Civil Engineering Service Line in our Gilbert, AZ office. This is an entry level position to apply academic knowledge to engineering projects under mentorship of a senior engineer and/or project manager. In this role you will learn to perform geotechnical and geologic analyses and site investigations including site characterization activities, foundation and retaining wall design, boring logging, slope stability analyses and settlement analyses, foundation/earthwork construction observation, and concrete/compaction field testing.

What you’ll do:
You will typically work on small projects or portions of larger projects to:
- Collect pertinent engineering data through research and/or investigation for a specific request
- Interpret applicable data and pertinent design criteria
- Prepare neat and organized calculations using sound engineering principles for review by senior engineer
- With supervisor’s guidance, prepare preliminary engineering design/layouts and technical drawings incorporating dimensions, quantities, and wording as relevant
- Maintain accurate quality records and other project documentation as requested by the PM
You will also shadow a trained engineer/geologist who may also serve as a Construction Monitor to:
- Learn how to observe and document construction, noting compliance and non- compliance to Drawings and Specifications and reporting such to DiGioia Gray Project Manager and Owner
- Learn the appropriate onsite analysis of construction/site conditions for compliance with the intent of the engineering design and for documentation of as-built conditions (e.g. subsurface conditions, soil/rock identification, groundwater/dewatering evaluation, subgrade condition/bearing capacity, slope/excavation stability assessment, stability assessment of adjacent transmission structures, etc.)
- Learn how to develop and provide suggestions/recommendations to the Contractor and Owner (for their consideration) for mitigation of the non-compliance items and to document those items
- Learn and develop field safety methods and practices
You will spend time in the field so be ready for some travel.
To be successful in this role we require:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program or equivalent experience
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a Geotechnical Engineering concentration, or related field from an ABET/EAC accredited program or equivalent experience
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or completion within 6 months to a year from start date
- Desire to apply your academic knowledge and build on your knowledge each day
Even better if you have:
- Technical acumen (e.g. worked on technical projects for various academic or research courses)
- Experience in power delivery and/or other related markets is helpful
- Technical experience from internship(s), co-op(s), and/or work experience
- Fundamental understanding of how consulting businesses operate (sales / marketing, operations, finance)
