Geodetic Solutions Engineer Job at Earth Resources Technology, Inc

Earth Resources Technology, Inc Silver Spring, MD 20910

Background

The Office of National Geodetic Survey (NGS) is authorized by congress for establishing and maintaining a consistent national coordinate system to support mapping, charting, navigation, infrastructure development, resource evaluation surveys, and scientific applications. The Office of NGS defines the United States official shoreline and maps the coastal zone and waterways, providing a vital service to the marine transportation industry, coastal planners, and stewards of the coastal environment. The Office also supports geodetic control for selected airports, and provides additional specialized products for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), assisting to sustain the air transportation infrastructure. This overarching goal is achieved using state-of-the-art methods of precise positioning, advanced applied geodesy, and remote sensing techniques .

In order to achieve these goals, NGS' Geoscience Research Division seeks methods to determine and improve positioning, and geophysical data collection, using emerging techniques such as laser altimetry, optical clocks, zenith cameras, and new earth-sensing satellite missions. The Division develops the theory and algorithms for improved determination of geopotential surfaces using relative and absolute surface gravity, as well as airborne and spaceborne gravity data. It evaluates instruments used for these applications such as GNSS receivers and antennas, relative and absolute gravimeters, and related technologies for the purpose of determining biases, precisions and accuracies.

Position Description

Will work with researchers in NGS' Geoscience Research Division utilizing new approaches and emerging technologies to determine and improve positioning. Will work closely with GRD researchers to develop instrumentation and evaluate the performance on such instrumentation for the purpose of determining biases, precisions and accuracies. The geodetic instrumentation include but is not limited to astro-geodetic instrumentation, GNSS receivers, and GNSS antennas. The work will include working with electro-optical elements and sensors.
