Loma Linda University Faculty Medical Group, Department of Pediatrics is expanding its Genetics Program and is searching for a board-certified Genetic Counselor with clinical experience, preferably in pediatric genetics. The successful candidate will join a well-regarded Clinical Genetics team in the Department of Pediatrics that provides integrated genetic services throughout the LLU Hospital System. There will also be scope to participate in the development of the MS Program in Genetic Counseling as it is developed with the Loma Linda University School of Medicine.

This is an excellent position for an experienced counselor with an interest in pediatric genetics, who enjoys teaching and wishes to participate in the leadership of the MS GC Program. The GC lead will provide inpatient and outpatient genetic counseling services to individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders and supervise other genetic counselors who provide the same services. The successful candidate will provide genetic counseling services to families of children and babies with congenital anomalies and hereditary disorders primarily in the outpatient Genetics clinics, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU). A focus of interest that aligns with a genetic specialty clinic is available (craniofacial, metabolic, neurogenetics). The successful candidate will evaluate genetic referrals and triage cases as appropriate for genetics providers. The genetic counseling lead will have a major role in developing effective educational materials and service protocols for genetic disorders directed at patients, physicians, and healthcare professionals, including genetic counseling trainees. Other administrative duties, such as genetic counselor schedules and participation in performance evaluations are within the scope of this position. Loma Linda University School of Medicine is developing an MS graduate program in Genetic Counseling.

Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling (or equivalent) and must be board-certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Board of Medical Genetics or equivalent. Three to five years of relevant job experience is required, preferably in pediatric genetics. Proficiency with electronic health record systems, word processing and database management systems is expected. Prior experience in program development, educational outreach, national or local advocacy and/or medical research is desirable. Human resource and/or staff management experience is desirable. The genetic counselor supervisor will be expected to travel to professional meetings and conferences representing Loma Linda University and presenting work done in our Health Care system. The successful applicant must be a self-directed person who can work both independently with little or no supervision and be successful as part of an academic medical genetics team. The genetic counselor lead must assure excellent quality of care in a patient-centered clinical environment by applying creative problem solving, excellent communication skills and adept synthesis of complex and diverse information. Must be able to analyze current medical literature and utilize patient data to maximize effectiveness within the clinical genetics setting and to establish quality standards of excellence for the genetic counselors as a whole. Must be able to communicate clearly, effectively and professionally with patients and colleagues. Knowledge of Spanish is desirable.

Compensation & Benefits

The compensation range listed is for starting base compensation only and is adjusted based upon years of experience and/or faculty rank: $95,000 - $120,000. This amount does not include variable compensation or extra productivity and is subject to the individual department compensation plans.
