IHI Power Services Corp. (IPSC) has a career opportunity for a Human Resources Director. Our corporate office is located in Aliso Viejo, CA however this is a remote position and would prefer that the successful candidate reside in the Central or Eastern part of the United States.

IPSC provides operations, maintenance, management, and power support services to the US Power Generation Industry across the United States. The Human Resources Director is required to have the ability to create trust and maintain a high degree of ethics and integrity with leadership, employees and vendors given the confidential nature of the data and information the position is exposed to. The position is expected to immediately surface issues or concerns that could present any problem to the company, employees, vendors, or in general the HR function. The successful candidate will be able to collaborate effectively with the internal management team, employees and our customers and will play an essential role in the continuous strategic transformation of the business.

You will mainly be responsible for the HRIS and benefits functions but will also collaborate with senior leadership to proactively support the development & maintenance of HR programs and policies to support the existing IPSC locations and future growth in a cost-effective manner. The position will also act as an employee advocate in discussions with managers and during the development and implementation of policies and programs. Overall responsibility includes but is not limited to HRIS management, benefits administration, staffing and recruiting, compensation, employee relations and performance management. Other duties will be assigned as necessary to support the company.


Job Functions

  • Collects and compiles key workforce analytics from a variety of sources, including Human Resource Information System (HRIS) and payroll outputs, benefits enrollment records, management and employee surveys, exit interviews, personnel records, government labor statistics, competitors’ practices, and other sources.
  • Prepares reports of workforce analytics, presenting and explaining findings to senior leadership team as requested. Based on metrics and analysis, makes recommendations for policies and activities to improve existing metrics, including changes to benefits, leave, and compensation offerings.
  • Research or coordinates with appropriate benefits consultants to research alternatives for health, wellness, and retirement plans and benefit providers.
  • Facilitates implementation of new leave programs, benefits plans, and other related initiatives.
  • Lead company Benefits functions to include manage communications for open enrollment, acquisitions, vendor or plan changes.
  • Recruiting support functions to include develop and maintaining job descriptions; search and staffing activities; oversees all pre-employment activities (drug screening, physicals, background checks, assessments)
  • Participate in transition management process for new contract acquisitions
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate records and tracking of all hiring processes
  • Acts as a trusted advisor and coach to the senior client leadership team while building deep client understanding and relationships, resulting in strategic alignment with the organization as well as organizational trust in, and partnership with, the HR function.
  • Assists with the policy development process by ensuring consistency and avoiding duplication or conflicts among policies; identifies policies, procedures, processes or practices that could be revised, simplified, eliminated or created to better meet the needs of the business.
  • Provide business leaders and managers with an HR perspective on business decisions by leveraging strong knowledge of all HR functions.
  • Evaluate the impact of proposed changes on employees and manage change to minimize disruption to the business.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable data privacy regulations and HR best practices.
  • Manage employee performance and/or disciplinary matters, investigations, and correction action plans.
  • May guide and/or assist with performance and compensation review and evaluation processes.
  • May assist HR leadership with staffing, recruiting, and departmental budgets.

Education & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Human Resources or related field
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience in a multi-location environment.
  • Current human resources and/or compensation credentials or certification, such as PHR, SPHR, CPP or similar, highly preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Prior experience working in the power/energy industry highly desirable.
  • Ability to effectively present at all levels within the organization
  • Proficiency with, or able to quickly learn, HRIS and talent management systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Ability to use Excel for creating & updating graphs, pivot tables, v-lookups, formulas for budgets, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of local, state, and federal laws involving employment, HR, and benefits administration.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Work Environment

  • This job operates in a clerical, office setting.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones etc.
  • Ability to work after hours on occasion as business needs dictate
  • Ability to travel to corporate office in Aliso Viejo and plant sites as needed, approx. 10%

Physical Abilities

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, communicate, reach and manipulate objects; mobility is also required.
  • All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the work facilities.
